SEXATOU REDDING AND BALLOT
REFORM.
The Atlanta Constitution Monday
contains this item of special interest
to the readers of The Gazette :
“Senator Redding's ballot reform
bill, which is now being considered by
a snb-committee of the upper house,
has already received the indorsement
of many influential members, and it is
not improbable that it will go on the
Statute books. The senator was in
the house last year, and although he
is not much given to displaying his
abilities from his seat, his fedlow mem
bers have grown to respect his views
and to admire him for his attention to
duty. He is easily one of the strong
est men in the general assembly, and
his strong personality will have much
to do with the success of any measure
which he fathers.”

J. .C COLLIER COMPANY,
The Big Store Hustling for Money,
THE PROPER WAT.
Last week, Mr. John M. Green,
the largest fertilizer manufacturer in
the state, called his creditors together
and told them that his collections
were so short that he could not meet
his obligations, unless he was in
dulged and given time to adjust his
business and make collections. His
creditors considered the matter and
readily agreed to his request.
There can be*no question about
the fact that many business men will
be unable to meet their obligations
when due. They will need indul
gencc because in many instances it
will be impossible for the people to
pay what they owe and everybody
should be able to help one another.
The Atlanta Constitution, speaking
of Mr. Green’s aftairs, prints a very
timely editorial, which we reproduce
and commend to the business men
generally:
“The result of this conference is
one upon which Atlanta and Georgia
are to be congratulated. A business
man, whose operations run into the
millions, calls in his creditors and
deals with them so frankly and so
openly that they meet his wishes and
grant him an extension which wilL al
low him an apportunity to make his
collections without a single untoward
circumstance. It is the beginning of
a happy policy, in which business men,
instead of playing sharks for the pur
pose of catching each other, will treat
with each other in friendliness and
support. A great proportion of the
business failures which are jjaily re
ported are due not to the inability of
the man to pay, but to the overween
ing desire of creditors to collect.
They pay no attention to the fact
that there were assets fully capable
of meeting every requirement, if only
time was given. Instead of this, the
business man is pushed into litiga
tion; his credit is ruined; his assets
are scattered to the iour winds, and
the creditors eventually have to he
satisfied with but a moiety of their
claim. In view of these facts, the
settlement of Mr. Green s affairs on
the basis alluded to forms a departure
from an Ishmaelite policy which
should be followed by business men

The Oak or the Vine ?
o
(DEDICATED TO SHAKESPEAREAN CLUB)
His manly head is bowed and his
soul is deep in thought,
He has tried to solve a problem 'til
his brain is overwrought;
As the lord of creation he feels his
power waning
For he knows that “woman s cen
tury” is absolutely reigning.
He was wedded to the idea of the
vine around the oak
And he felt like Paul of old if ever
woman spoke.
Comfortable oak, with the vine
around your feet,
Towering in your mighty strength
where fame and fortune meet.
Forgetful of that little vine that
shields from burning sun,
Or wraps you from the chilling frost
when the day is done.
With tendrils strong she reaches
from out such idle rest
To ever let her “light so shine"—
humanity to bless.
The revolution’s started and it
never backward turns—
There is writing on the wall that
the future will decern.
The oak has met a since the
vine has climbed the bars
But be has her heart in keeping
though she tw-ine around the
stars.

An Open Letter to the Women of America by A Woman
Who Has for Years Made the Diseases Peculiar to
Women A Matter of Profound Study
and Keen Investigation.
Thousands of women are fading under
the weakening influence of the diseases
peculiar to their sex, ignorant of the real
cause of their declining health. Health
and disease are physical conditions upon
which pleasure or pain, success or failure,
depend. Life is incomplete without the
enjoyment of healthy organs and facul
ties. Health is essential to the accom
plishment of every purpose, while disease
thwarts the best intentions and loftiest
aims.
Diseases of women or of those organs
and parts peculiar to the female sex, are
as a matter of fact, the most common
causes of physical suffering in women.
Young unmarried women and young
mothers have died in all ages of the world,
a large number of whom might have been
saved, had they properly understood and
regarded, all the laws of life and health.
If, dear madam, you are suffering from
any of these disorders, do not waste time
with physicians who have not made disea
ses of women the subject of special inves
tigation. There are thousands of women
today suffering from uterine derange
ments, or some disease peculiar to their
sex, who really believe there is no help
for them, and who seem to think they
