BARNESVILLE,GA„ THURSDAY, JANUARY 5, 1899.
FIVE NEW DWELLINGS. '
Barnesville is growing, in the very first days of 1899.
Besides the half dozen residences in course of erection, con
tracts have been let since the new year began for five new
dwellings to be put up immediately. • Monday Mrs. Emma
Guttenberger purchased the lot on Elm street between Judge
Fryer and Mrs. Bush from Mr. T. J. Williamson, and she will
erect at once a handsome two-story dwelling. It will be
equipped with all the latest conveniences and will be a very
valuable home.
Mayor Walter B. Smith has purchased a lot on Green
wood street from Mrs. L. K. Rogers and will erect thereon as
early as possible a beautiful cottage home. The contract will
be let this week for immediate construction. The lot is next
to the home of Mrs. Rogers.
Mr. Dan Smith has purchased a vacant lot from Mr. P.
L, Gordy on Brown avenue, adjoining the home of Mr. W.
J. Gordy and Mr. Smith will have put up at once a nice cot
tage home.
Dr. C. H. Perdue will soon commence to remodel his
home. He has consulted a first class architect for the per
fection of his plans.. Part of his house now standing will be
torn away, and he will build to the rest making a large and
handsome residence. Dr. Perdue also intends to improve his
lot aud when he completes his plans, he will have a lovely
home that will be a credit to the city.
Another deal was made Wednesday which results in a
new house. Mr. Edgar L. Rogers bought the parsonage from
the West Monroe Circuit and then sold the same people a
lot on Forsyth street- The West Monroe people will erect
at once anew and thoroughly up-to-date parsonage, It will
be beyond the new houses recently put up by Mr. Rogers.
This makes a dozen new dwellings under contract. It
shows that Barnesville starts the new year well.
A Flea lor me Music Depart
ment ot Gordon Institute.
Last summer the Board of Trustees of Gordon Institue
bought six new pianos and employed Miss Mary W. Lovelace
and Mrs. Nottingham to teach music. Never in the history
of the Institute has the department been so well equipped,
never has it had a better corps of teachers. There is no clap
trap about the department, but the instruction is of the very
highest order.
During the Spring Term a grand entertainment will be
given by the music class in connection with the Battalion
Band, and it will be the most brilliant in the history of the
institution. The proceeds of the entertainment will be de
voted exclusively to the improvement of the music depart
ment.
It is hoped that all the parents in Barnesville who can
possibly do so will sustain with their patronage and encour
agement the music department.
B. M. Turner,
Pres. B’d. of Trustees,
OPENS MONDAY.
The" Spring term of Gordoh Institute opens Monday
next. Parents of Barnesville should start every child possible
on the very first day, Do not delay it. Let them begin
Monday, and continue every day, taking in the full course in
all departments. The people here have educational advan
tages that should be fully utilized.
