The work of Mr. Matthews, the tax receiver, has been entirely satisfactory to the people of the coun ty, and he feels gratified at the large, increase. Lyon, the well known cotton buyer and commission man, leaves Monday for Quitman, to engage with the Quitman Cotton Cos, a very strong concern. Lambdin will lo cate in Barnesville for the practise of law and will move his family here in a short time. This is gratifying news to the people of the city, community and section. Col. Lambdin is a son of the lamented Charles E. Lambdin and is well known ami has the con fidence and esteem of every body in Barnesville. For years he has been a member of the firm of Hillyer, Alexander & Lambdin in Atlanta, which enjoyed a large practise in all the courts of the state. The firm is state attorneys for the Singer Sewing Machine Cos, local attorneys of the Georgia Rail road and represent quite a number of the business firms of Atlanta. Col. Lambdin is a quali fied by his knowledge of law and his office and court practise to faithfully represent any client in any of the courts of Georgia who may intrust their interest to him. He has sometime past desired to move with his family back to Bar. nesville, his old home, and to spend his life in the community which is en deared to him by many associations. In this decision of Col. Lambdin Barnesville gains a useful citizen and a good family and this entire section of the state an able lawyer and a wise counselor. He will be cordially wel comed. Brilliant Reception, The following interesting item is from the Atlanta Constitution: “A brilliant reception was given at Yonah hall Thursday evening, com plimentary to Mrs. J. D. Williamson, of Waco, Tex., and Miss lone Mur phey, of Barnesville, Ga. Mrs. Annie Sanford Cochrane, Gainesville; Mrs. J. D. Williamson, Waco, Tex.; Miss lone Murphey, Barnesville, and Mr. Hub Logan, Gainesville, constituted the receiving party. “The ladies were exquisitely gown eyl. Mrs. Cochrane wore black nA over yellow silk: Mrs. Williamson was gowned in a magnificent pink taffeta, trimmed in sweet peas; Miss Murphey, the queen of the occasion, wore light blue silk with cerise trimmings.” They Move to Barnesville. Mr. D. A. Reid and family of At lanta have moved to Barnesville and are occupying the Staf ford house just above Magnolia Inn. This family will place several students in Gordon Institute at the opening of the fall term. Mr. Reid is a travel ing man and represents the Atlanta Supply Cos. He and his family are cordially welcomed to Barnesille and it is hoped that they may have a pleasant and profitable stay here. .Speaking at Lifseys. Hon. J. B. Hunnicutt will speak at Lifsey’s Springs Saturday, Aug. 12th, at 11 o’clock a. m. Everybody is invited to be present. Mr. Hunnicutt is one of the most practical and en tertaining speakers in Georgia and his address will be productive ot good. Thrown From Hmriry. Monday afternoon Miss Belle Mur phey, in getting out of her buggy at the Matthews Hotel, was tripped and thrown to the ground. She fainted and for a while it was feared that she was badly hurt. Her left arm was slightly hurt, but otherwise she soon recovered from the shock. Knocked in the Head, One evening last week, two boot blacks go* into a fight and I\ M. Ed wards, the barber, undertook to part them. As soon as he had succeeded, one of the boys hit Edwards on the head with a rock, seriously injuring him. It is said that the skull is frac tured and he has been laid up since. He is now some better and may re cover. 60RRY—PITTS- The following in the Atlanta Jour nal Saturday will be read with inter est by the people of Barnesville: ‘‘Announcement is made of the approaching marriage of Dr. John Alexander Corry and Miss Allene Pitts, which will be solemnized Mon day, August 14th at the beautiful and elegant homeofthe bride’s parents,Mr. and Mrs. John L. Pitts Newborn Ga. It willbe a pretty home ceremony, witnessedonly by relatives and intim ate friends of the bride and groom. The cere rnony will be performed by Rev. E. Giddings Smith, of Greensboro, Ga. “Miss Pitts is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Pitts, and a sister of Mrs. Hollis Gray, of Bar nesville. She is a charming woman. Two years ago she graduated with distinguished honors at Wesleyan. Since her debut into society she has been a reigning belle wherever she went. “Dr. Corry was formerly from Greensboro. He came here to prac tice his profession one year ago. He is a highly intelligent young man, and graduated with honors at the Augusta medical college. Since his residence here he has made many warm friends. “The happy young couple will spend some weeks in the mountains of North Georgia. On their return home they will be at home to their friends at the residence of Mr. John 1,. Pitts.” Meeting At Milner. Editor Gazette: Please announce that I will conduct a weeks meeting here beginning next Saturday to which all are invited. Services will beheld at 10530 a. m. and 7530 p. m. each day. The entertainment at the home of Mr. Edgar L. Rogers Friday evening last was very pleasant, but there was a small crowd present.
