Na.ional Service Life Insurance
held by most veterans of World
War II was released today by Will
iam K. Barrett, director of the
State Department of Veterans Ser
vice.
Barrett revealed that earlier
plans to send out approximately
200,000 checks each working day,
or about one million per week have
been changed, and .checks are be
ing mailed at a substantially great
er rate. This, he explained, will
mean that all veterans will receive
their checks somewhat sooner than
had been expected.

conducted recently indicated that
some veterans who held serial
numbers with the last three digets
in the “400” group have been paid.
This is an indication of the pro
gress being made in paying the
cheeks in Washington. (Earlier,
the Veterans Administration re
vealed that veterans who held
serial numbers which ended with
the digets “000” would be paid
first, and those ending with “999”
last.)
It was also announced that vet
erans will receive only one dividend
check, even if they held several
NSLI policies during or since the
war. Dividends, Barrett explained,
are computed on each policy indivi
dually, and the total dividends are
added; the total is then paid in one
sum.
Barrett also stated that any de
ductions made by Federal Agencies
from the checks will be recorded
r n a sl’n accompanying ea.li cncck.
These slips will give a full expla
nation of the reason for the deduc
tion. If no slip is attached to the
check, the veteran may assume
that no money was deducted, he
stated.
In his news release, Barrett
stated that there have been a
limited number of cases where
veterans have been paid less than
the dividend due them. He repeat
ed an offer made earlier, to the ef
fect tha: all Georgia veterans who
feel that they have no; been paid
the full amount of the dividend due
them should call at the nearest
Veterans Service Office and secure
full information concerning the
procedure which should be taken
to have the State Department of
Veterans Service check to see if the
veteran was paid the full amount
due him. The Veterans Service Of
fice in this area is located in Don
alsonville. Manager of the office is
J. F. Spooner.
