the many attractions of the Oircus is Capt. Eddie Kuhn
(pictured above) and his animals which include Panthers,
Lions and Tigers.
Lions To Enter Race For
Elkon Cup At State Meet
At the regular luncheon meeting
of Donalsonville Lions Tuesday,
members vo'ed to compete for the
Elkon Cup . o be given at the State
.Meet. This erp is given the Club
which has gained the greatest gross
receipts for projects sponsored dur
ing the year. It is believed by the
local Lions that more money has
been made and. spent by the Club
this past year than in any previous
year during he history -?<f the Club.
Delegates to the State Conven
tion will be instructed o vote for
the candidate they see fit for Dis
trict Governor.
President C. C. Foster announc
ed that a four ring circus will be
shown here next week. Proceeds
will be used to pay for playground
equipment at the local schools.
President Foster stated that Dr.
H. B. Jenkins and Mr. A. A. Park
er, each, were giving a boy scout a
trip to the National Jamboree at

of Americans by Lion Shingler,
and demonstrated what even a
small town can become hrough
determination and industry.
T. T. Davis, Buick Salesman of
Bainbridge, was guest of the Club.
Work Begun On
Canning Plant
Construe ion has begun on the
nlant of the Davis Canning Comp
any. The building will be located
on the lot east of the Donalsonville
Grain and Elevator, facing the A.
C. L. Railroad.
The block structure is expected
to be completed within 45 days,
airing unforseen complications, at
a cos.t of approximately $15,000.00.
Also, some of -the equipment has
arrived.
The completion date drew nearer
at the Farmers Market project.
Block sides have been completed
and the remaining time will be
spent on the roof and at finishing
work.
•Constructor Thomas Lear said
this week that if faivorable weather
continues, he will have the job
completed in two weeks.
Mr. Jeff Hoover has been spend
ing several days in Baltimore, Md.
with his son, Jeff Hoover, Jr.

County Lags On Red Cross
Fund Drive; Donors Listed
It was reported today that con
tributions to the Seminole County
Red Cross quota was running far
b'hind schedule and Mr. L. H.
Hastey, Fund Chairman, stated, “I
feel that everyone wants to do heir
nart toward the Red Cross and
tha the quota will ‘:e raised.” He
continued, “If everyone could take
a minute or two off and drop his
of her contribution in the mail to
me, it would save a lot of commit
tee work of contact ing each and
every individual.”
All people are familiar with the
great work and service performed
by the Bed Cross and it is through
'he American people that this
work and service can be carried on.
If you have not given, do so im
mediately in order that Senqinole
County will he doing its part in the
annual drive.

The Big Four Plays
For V. F. W. Dance
The Seminole County Post
of VFW will sponsor a dance
at the local Veterans Club on
Thursday night, March 30 from
9 until 1 o’clock. Music will be
furnished by The Big Four, a
well known colored orchestra
from Bainbridge, Georgia.
Admission will be $1.50 and
the proceeds) will be added to
the School Boy Patrol Camp
near Cordele, Georgia.
The general public is invit
ed and urged to attend.
Uncle Sam Begins Census
April 1; Bivings Leader
The seventeen h decenial of the
Census of the United States will
begin Saturday, April 1. The census
is taken every ten years and all
papula, ion figures for the ensuing
ten years are based on these fig
ures.

ville, will l':e Seminole County’s
Crew Leader with headquarters in
Donalsonville.

Soil Test Unit To
Be Here Tuesday
The mobile soil testing unit of
the Georgia Experiment Station
, will appear at the Donalsonville
court house next Tuesday, March
28. This truck is 'being brought here
to give Seminole county farmers
an opportunity to determine heir
soil fertilizer needs, and to actually
watch the tests being made. Ex
perts will be on hand to answer any
questions.
Mr. L. C. Olson, Siol Analyist,
at the Station, is scheduled to ad
dress the local Lions Club.
A circular letter has been mailed
inviting all farmers to bring in
samples on that day. Veteran tea
chers are also urged to invite
students to do the same.
Anyone can take his own sam
ples by observing the following
step^s:
1. Take separate samples from
each field, growing different crops;
or in the case of a distinct differ
ence in soil type in same field.
2. Secure several samples from
each field, mix these ogether and
save about one-half pint. Dig down
about six inches; number each sam
ple separately.
3. Do not get samples from any
unusual spot in your field, such as
peanut picker beds, and small wet
bottoms.
4. If you have already put ou
fertilizer, take the samples be
tween the rows.
5. Take the samples at least a
day ahead so that they can dry out.

WHEREAS, the 17th Decennial
Census cf the United S'ates will be
conducted beginning on April 1,
1950; and
WHEREAS, all the inhabitants
of the city of Donalsonville are to
be enumerated in this Census; and
WHEREAS, the information col
lected in the Census serves many
useful purposes, among which are
apportionment of representation in
Congress and other legislative
bodies, measurement of markets
and purchasing power of communi
ties and their inhabitants, allot
ment of certain Federal and State
tax revenues and other financial
aid to cities, determination of fu
ture needs for public utilites and
services, and other useful purposes
too numerous to mention here; and
WHEREAS, the accuracy and
completeness of the census for the
city cf Donalsonville will deter
mine its population rank among
the other communities of the coun
try;

citizen of Donalsonville to give his
or her fullest cooperation to the
Census enumerators when they call
at our homes in April, 1950.
