Farm Market To
Be Open When
Produce Ready
C. C. Foster, manager, said
today that the Farmers Market
will be open and ready for produce
as soon as farmers bring it in. He
said the market is ready to begin
handling the produce at any time.
The road over the railroad track
to the market is in the process of
being paved and will be completed
soon, Foster said.
Farmers are requested to mail
a card to Mr. Foster, telling him
| what crops they will have for the
market, the number of acres that
'is planted, and the approximate
' date that they expect to bring it
1 to market. Foster said that if the
farmers would do this, he could
have buyers on hand for them.
Several buyers have already been
contacted and they have promised
to buy here if the quantity of the
produce is sufficient.
Crops that are in greater de
mand, Foster said, are watermel
ons, tomatoes, beans, okra, green
com and sweet potatoes.
Farmers were reminded of the
importance of grading and packing
their produce for the best prices.
Foster expects the market to do
, a better business than last year,
. when $59,000.00 business was done.
Pointing to the demand created
j by the was effort, he said that
, all indications point to a good year
I for the farmer.
Farmers will have a second mar
ket for their produce in the Davis
Canning Co. That company can
use an unlimitd amount of toma
toes, string beans and peas.
