DONALSONVILLE (GA.) NEWS FRIDAY, MARCH 9, 1951
Local Bank Now
(Continued From Front Page)
private office erected of mahog
any panels and furnished with
matching desk and chairs.
The bank vault was built by
Deibold, Inc., of Canton, Ohio. It
is constructed of brick and con
crete and heavily reinfored with
steel. In this vault are 164 safety
deposit boxes accessible to the
public during the day. Behind a
stainless steel partition with locked
d<Tor is the large safe in which
money is kept under a time lock,
The door to the vault is thick solid
steel and is equipped with two
time locks which are used at night.
This saime manufacturing company
installed the after-hour depository
which the bank reports has already
made many friends among the
business firms that do not wish to
have much cash on hand at night.
The after-hour depository is of
the strongest type that can be
bought. Being embedded in con
crete. makes money in it as safe
as money in the vault. Money in
the after-hour depository is fully
insured, as is the money in the
vault.
The exterior of the bank build
ing has been changed very little.
It is located on the corner of
Second and Woolf oik Avenue and
fronts on Second Street. The two
entrance doors on the front are
solid plate glass with aluminum
trim and push handles. A marquee
of aluminum ' has been erected
above the doors. The arched win
.dbrws of glass brick are trimmed
with grey marble, which against
the black brick building, stand out
conspiciously. Beside each door :s
a bronze tablet carrying the name
of the bank together with the nota-
ion that deposits are insured by
federal Deposit Insurance Corpor
ation up to $10,000.00.
The bank is equipped with a
Carrier air conditioning unit used
ooth in winter and summer.
The Merchants and Farmers
Bank was chartered by the State
of Georgia on September 24, 1925,
and has just passed its 25th anni
versary .of successful operation.
Upon the organization of the bank
it had a capital stock of $25,000.00
and a surplus fund of $5,000.00.
At the present time the capital
stock is $25,000.00 and the surplus
fund is $65,000.00. Much credit for
the success of the bank is due the
late Mr. P. S. Cummings who
served as president of the bank
until 1945. His portrait hangs
in the lobby of the bank. Since Mr.
Cummings’ death, the further
success and growth of the bank is
credited to the present president,
Mr. Henry O. Cummings, and the
present board of directors.
This friendly community institu
tion invites you to visit them when
it is convenient to you. The officers
and employees will take pleasure
in showing you over their new
banking rooms.
