Clean Donalsonville Campaign
Easter Cantata Here Sunday
The Adult Choir of the First
Baptist Church will present an
Easter Cantata entitled ‘‘Sunrise
Over Calvary,” arranged by Noel
Benton, Sunday evening at 8 p. m.
The music will be directed by
Mrs. C. S. Forrester with Mrs. E.
P. Stapleton as organist and Mrs.
W. E. Dunn pianist.

Lonnie Barber Is
Laid To Final Rest
Lonnie Banber, 65, of Donalson
ville, died Sunday, March 18, at'
9:00 o’clock.
He was born in Serninole copnty
on October 25, 1885, and his
entire life in this 'county.
Funeral services were htid on
March 19 at 4:00 p. m. at the
First Baptist Church with the
Revs. Whitt M. Aiken and L. E.
Pierce officiating. Interment fol
lowed in the Donalsonville ceme
itery with Ira Barber, Gordon Bar
’ber, Andrew Lynn, Lonnie Jerni
;gan and L. T. Hudson serving as
pallbearers.
'Besides his wife, Mamie Barber,
lhe is survived by the following
•brothers and sisters, Berry Barber,
of’Donalsonville; Bryon Barber of
Florida; Mrs. N. R. Elliott of
Tampa; and Mrs. Dozzie Bolton.

Following a meeting of last
week, called by County School
Superintendent N. P. Malcom, of
state, county and area school offi
cials for the purpose of beginning
a .school .plant survey in Seminole
county., fact finding committees
have been .organized and are busy
collecting Tacts to he submitted to
the reviewing committee.
The three .committees organized
are:
Program .committee with Chester
Lee of Donalsonville Elementary
School as chairman. Mrs. Julian
Webb is co-chairman and Mrs.
Earle MoseOey iis secretary.
Population ramxnittee with Mrs.
Ross Thomas as chairman, Mrs.
Harry O’Neal, co-chairman, and
Mrs. Lois Schwahk, secretary.
Plant Facilities committee, with
Rev. Whit Aiken as chairman, Hud
son Owen, co-chaiiwian, and Mrs.
Agnes Killian, secretary.
These committee will be organ
ized into sub-comm ittees. Each
sub-committee will work under a
chairman, a co-chairman and a
secretary.
All committees are to compile
a complete and an extensive study
of all schools (white and colored)
in the county.
When the study is completed, the
committees hand in a complete in
ventory with all recommendations
for any changes, any remodeling,
or educational fitness for the pre
sent curricula.
After the data has been gathered
the committees will go before the
board of the reviewing committee.
The reviewing committeenjen will
study the recommendations from
the fact finding committees that
they might formulate the neces
sary needs of every school.
Due to the progressiveness of
Mr. Malcom, county school super
ihtendent, who is visiting in
neighboring counties during the
surveys in order to become en
lightened on the subject, Seminole
County is one of the first in the
state to make such a survey of
schools.

of; 'he Confederacy will meet
ikVA. Tuesday afternoon, March
27, at 4 p. m. at the home of Mrs.
E. C. Smith. Mrs. Smith and Mrs.
J. E. Jones will be hostesses.

PTA Hears Music
Program At Meet
The music committee of the
Parent-Teacher Association, with
Mrs. C. D. Thomas as chairman,
presented a program on music ap
preciation at the regular monthly
meeting Tuesday.
Mrs. Thomas gave an introduc
tory talk on music in the -schools
and J. B. Jtaikins, principal of
Seminole High School, gave an
introduction to The moving pasture,
Moving Ahead With Music, which
was produced by the American
Music Conference.
From the picture shown it was
learned that “in learning music,
children learn to live. Music is
natural with the child. He likes
to walk, skip and dance to music.
It should be the background of his
whole life, in the home, in the
school, and in the church.”
The entire group thanked Mrs.
Thomas for the privilege of seeing
this picture which created more in
terest in school music and in giving
the child musical advantages.
Mrs. E. P- Stapleton presided
during the business session.
It was reported that three child
ren have been furnished glasses by
the PTA.
“Quarters for Headquarters”
was explained and Mr. Jenkins told
of the school plant survey which is
being carried on at the present
time in Seminole County under the
direction of N. P. Malcom, county
school superintendent.
Mrs. Stapleton announced the
cash award given to the loeal PTA
by the district PTA for having the
greatest number of members at
tending the district meeting in
Albany.
Attendance awards to the rooms
with most parents at the meeting
Tuesday were Mrs. Earline Sim
mons' room for the elementary
school and Mrs. Porter Smith’s
room in high school.
An art exhibit was displayed
from the elementary school show
ing progress made in creative art
courses.

CLEAN-UP, PAINT-UP
CAMPAIGN IS
PROCLAIMED
Citizens of Donalsonville were
urged this week to join in the
clean-up, paint-up campaign that
has been proclaimed during the
month of April. Sponsored by the
Lions Club, the drive drew the
support of the Mayor of Donalson
ville, who issued a proclamation,
urging that all citizens of the
city cooperate in the campaign.
Chairman T. H. Faircloth of the
Lions Community Betterment
Committee asked that everyone do
his part by painting what is in
need of paint and “generally clean
ing up.”
The proclamations follow:

The month of April has been
set aside for CLEAN UP MONTH
and proclaimed by the Mayor and
City Council of Donalsonville, in
connection with the Lions Club
Community Betterment Committee.
Let us urge everyone to coop
erate in this drive —for a cleaner
place to live—by painting where
it is needed, and generally cleaning
up.
We are looking forward to a

do our part to make our town
look its best.

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Georgia Safety
Fire Commissioner has set the
dates for “Spring Clean-up Time”
during the month of April, and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Her
man E. Talmadge, Governor of
the State of Georgia, has issued
a proclamation designating certain
dats during the month of April
as “Spring Clean-up Time” in
Georgia, and
Whereas, the Lions Club of Don
alsonville, Georgia, are sponsoring
a clean-up and paint-up program
for the month of April for the
City of Donalsonville, and
WHEREAS, most fires can be
prevented by proper precautions
and carelessness and bad conditions
around the home, store and pre
mises cause most fires, and
WHEREAS, the best advertis
ing a community can do is to, at
all times, keep its streets, alleys
and vacant lots cleared of debris
and the buildings and homes in a
clean and healthy condition.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, E. P.
Stapleton, Mayor of the City of
Donalsonville, Georgia, do hereby
proclaim and designate the month
of April as “Clean-up and Paint-up
Time” in Donalsonville and do
hereby urge all the citizens of our
city to join in cleaning up and
keeping clean the City of Donal
sonville.

Guests at the luncheon meeting
Tuesday of Donalsonville Lions
Club were Basil Harris of Atlanta
and H. S. Lineberger’ of Valdosta.
L. R. Robinson was a new mem
ber and was welcomed into the
club by President W. H. Minter.
C. C. Foster, manager of the
State Farmers Market here, told
fellow Lions of contracts being
given to farmers for stringless,
beans and Blue Lake beans and alsoj
for tomatoes.
Mr. Foster asked members of the-
Club to talk to farmer friends;
about the prospect for making:
profits on these extra crops.
The directors meeting was an
nounced for Tuesday evening at
Braswell’s Fish Camp on Spring.

J. L. Jernigan announced that,
the entertainment “Grand Old
Opry” would be given next Tues
day evening, March 27, at the high
school auditorium. This show woll
be sponsored by the Lions Club„

President Minter told of a visit
to Cuthbert by a committee of in
terested citizens for the purpose of
hearing the new high school band
there and for investigating meth
ods of carrying on the expense of
a band.
