COMMUNISM’S PLAN AND
U. S. INCONSISTENCY
At'different intervals Rus
sia has made threats, first
to break us economically,, to
frustrate and frighten us,
and then to bury us. Part of
our response has been deri
sion and sarcasm that, in
their poverty ai/d weakness
as a nation under their type
of government, they would or
even could engage in that sort
of wishful thinking.
First, in order to hurt us
economically they reneged on
payment of any of their bil
lions of world war II indebted
ness to us and then refused to
return the hundreds of ships
loaned them. This assistance
from us helped to keep them
from being conquered by Hit
ler. A recent newspaper sug
gested that Russia is now us
ing our borrowed ships to
send munitions and soldiers to
Cuba. Another move was to
encourage the have-not na
tions, including Yugoslavia
and India to secure gifts and
loans of all possible billions
from the U. S. or “Uncle Sap •
With the exception of Latin
America, our response, incon
sistent in many instances
has been to grant requests to
nearly all applicants, and
with little if any security or
even assurance that distribu
tion would be made for the
purpose for which applica
tions and grants were made.
All this has had much to do
with the devaluation of U. S.
currency and the diminish
ing of our gold supply; which
makes the American dollar
sound the world around. And
there is some related cause
for the stock market to be as
“jumpy as the Irishman’s
flea.” '
Most Americans tend to
get nervous when the econo
my weakens. We are yet frus
trated and frightened, but a
little apprehensive. I am
neither criticizing nor com
mending, because I don’t
know, but simply citing these
two suggestions from Wash
ington for your consideration:
(J) Bomb shelter erection,
hole digging, or cave dwelling
for every American. (2) The
new suggestion about to be
made for a national system of
electric, nuclear warning buz
zers in every home to be set
off by push-button from
Washington at the instant of
a nuclear attack any where.
HEALTH OFFICER WARNS
OF POSSIBLE DANGER IN
CHILDREN’S TOYS
In recent weeks, the Jequir
ity bean has made its appear
ance in the Southeastern
States in several retail novel
ty stores as a bead used in
necklaces or on dolls or simi
lar toys.
Dr. Thomas F. O’Donnell
of the Seminole County
Health Department would like
to alert everyone to the high
ly poisonous quality of this
bean. If chewed by a child,
it can cause violent sickness
in hours and death within
twelve days. The bean is
small, hard-shelled and either
black or red and black. ‘‘The
Jequirity bean is attractive
but deadly,” says Dr. O’Don
nell. “Please check your child
ren’s toys, and prevent an ac
cident that could be fatal.”
Anyone seeing these beans
for sale in any fashion, should
notify the Seminole County
Health Department at once. 1
(Whether these should be or
should not be, I do not know.
But I remember well the
ghost stories of the old time
Negro mammies told children
at night producing some
frightening night - mareish
dreams.
Inconsistency has tendency
toward ill manners, amorality,
and irreligion. Especially is
this true in international
dealings. Space permits only
brief references. Our unbusi
ness like dealings with Russia
have allowed her to spurn her
obligations and ridicule us.
Withholding our troops from
Berlin, to allow Russia to
“save face”, after the war
[was won, has caused all this
(Berlin and East Germany
trouble. Then allowing Russia
to officially enter the war a
■ gainst Japan—on paper—aft
ler the fighting was done, in
directly caused our Korean
War. : ’
