Lions Club hears director of Haven
tell of work there for alcoholics
The Donalsonville Lions
Club met Tuesday noon at
Moseley Hall with President
Darby White presiding.
For the program, T. W.
Beauchamp introduced Rev.
S. H. Moses, director of The
Haven in Dothan, who spoke
to the club of the importance
of never taking the first
social drink, which could lead
to alcoholism.
The Haven is a Christian
Rehabilitation Home for alco
holic men who are desirous of
help with their alcohol pro
blem. It is a place to get a
man away from old environ
ment where he has tried so
often, but failed. It builds
him up physically, clears him
up mentally, and helps him
to get right with God, and

REUNION
The Hardy clan held a fam
ily reunion Sunday at the
home of Mrs. Janie Hardy and
her brother, I. J. Trawick.

“The Haven is an arm of
• the church it is not a
church, but a missionary
work of the churches. There
is no baptism or membership.
When the men finish their
(stay of up to eight weeks,
they are instructed to be ac
tive in a church of their
choice”, Mosses said.
I The Haven is to provide a
place of protection, care, and
healthful surroundings for
men while they are being
shown the way to a new life
freedom from the drink
habit.
i There is no alcohol of any
form allowed on the grounds,
no “tapering off.” Sedation
is administered when needed.
The Haven is not a hospital,
intensive medical care
must be taken care of before
i admittance.
Regular nutritional meals
are served to build up the
men physically. “Many, who
are admitted, suffer from
malnutrition” he said.
Chapel is held daily by
members of the staff and
visiting prechers. Counsel
ing, both group and personal,
is an important part of the
program. The Haven Family

each man is treated as an
individual
Rev. Moses said that
“Georgia alone has over 168.-
000 alcoholics, and Alabama
has 50,000.” “New York City
spent some 4 million dollars
last year to provide food and
shelter for some 10,000 fami
lies on relief roll because of
alcoholic fathers”, he said.

Mr. Claude Peacock of Do
than has resumed his art
class on Thursday afternoons
with his studio at The Muric
Shop. The hours are from
three-thirty to five-thirty. In
the studio there is a complete
line of art supplies. Students
may enter the class at any
time since the teaching is on
an individual basis. The class
is composed of beginners as
well as advanced students.

Mrs. Alf Greene spent last
week in DeFuniak Springs,
Fla., where she was called to
the bedside of her mother
who sustained a broken leg in
an accident.

week on a business trip which
parried him to north Georgia,
Tennessee and northeast Ala
