attend will be Zack Williams,
Spooner’s high school coach.
The program will be held
in the grammer school lunch
room at 8:00 o’clock- Tickets
to the affair are available
from any member of the plan
ning committee.

Howard Rogers is chairman

Meyer Klempf.
Young Spooner was the
first player in the history of
the school to gain a basketball
scholarship to a Southeastern
Conference School. After he
helped Coach Williams win a
district championship in high
school, he went to Tech,
where he played regularly and
was alternate captain of the
Tech team during the past
season, his last.
Other details of the event
will be announced later.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Spooner,
Jr., are Charles’ parents.

A meeting of interested cit
izens will be held in the social
hall of Friendship Methodist
Church on Wednesday even
ng, April 29, at 8:00 o’clock,
according to Rev. Henry Er

The group will meet with a
representative of the Georgia
Recreational Commission to
study and discuss city and
county recreation needs and

members of the city council
and county commission, mem
bers of the boards of directors
of the chamber of commerce
and Lions club, radio and
newspaper representatives
and others.
WINGATE TO RUN FOR
CONGRESS
Harry L. Wingate, Jr. has
announced as a candidate for
the Second Congressional Dis
trict seat being vacated by
Rep. J. L. Pilcher.
Born in Baker County and
reared in Pelham, Wingate is
the son of H. L. Wingate, for
mer president of the Georgia
Farm Bv.reru Federation.
He has been serving on the
Senate Armed Services Com
mittee since 1956.

HONOR COUPLE Another pair of SCHS students has
been honored by the FHA chapter by being named boy.
and girl of the month. Carolyn Ritchie is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John Ritchie. She is a member of FHA, plays
in the band, and attends the Methodist church in Iron
City. Buddy Herrington’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. C- O.
Herrington. Buddy is a member of the high school band
and Hi-Y chapter. He attends Friendship Methodist Church
in Donalsonville. Both are juniors at SCHS.
