Hints for Homemakers

Tips on Picture Hanging
Are you occasionally stump
ed by the seemingly simple
problem of how to hang a pic
ture ? Where should it be
hung? How should they be
grouped? Your own eyes and
preferences can be the best
guide at times, but here are
a few pointers that apply to
most situations.
If possible, relate pictures
to furniture. Keep picture
and furniture sizes in scales.
When large pictures or
groupings are hung over a

ana senior 4-H judging teams
competed in tne Southwest
Georgia 4-H juaging contest
recently.
The senior team, composed
of Luke Spooner, John Phil
Spooner and Harry Cobb,
walked off with top honors in
their division, by scoring 1138
points. Luke Spooner was the
hign individual in the contest,
with 408 points out of a possi
ble 450, and John Phil Spooner
was second with 405. The boys
judged three classes of hogs
and three classes of cattle,
and had to give three sets of
oral reasons why they placed
the animals as they did.
The junior team placed
fifth with 917 points. This
team is composed of Rusty
Hall, Edgar Lane, Gary Spoon
er, Gus Youmans and Mike
Carr. Carr was the 10th high
individual in the contest, with
325 points.
The senior team will repre
sent Seminole County and
Southwest Georgia at the
state contest to be held in At
lanta in October.

ty agent, coached both teams.
ELECTED STATE NFA
PRESIDENT
At the state NFA conven
tion held at Camp John Hope
in Fort Valley recently, Ralph
Leggett, a member of the
Seminole NFA chapter, was
elected president for the year
1964-65.
Ralph is a sophomore at
Seminole County Train in g
School. He is a former presi
dent of the Booker T. Wash
ington Federation, heads
three school clubs, and is a
member of the school’s honor
society .

Pairs of pictures gain in
importance when they are
hung side by side or one over
the other.
Picture groupings usually
look best when the outside
edges of the frames form 1 a
square or rectangle.
Larger, more important
pictures gain interest when
they are centered over a man
tel or big piece of furniture.
Tall pictures usually look
best on a narrow wall, broad
pictures on a wide wall-
Before putting a nail or
hanger into the wall, place a
small strip of cellophane tape
on' the wall at the hanger
point. This may help to keep
the plaster from chipping.
Picture nails or hangers
should be hammered into the
wall at an angle. Small light
weight pictures may often be
hung over a carpet tack. The
hanging device should not
show.

To remove stains from sink,
line it with paper towels, wet
them with a bleach and let
them soak for about an hour.
Remove the towels and scrub
