FT A awards.. continued from front page & X ♦ Bill Nunnery, Rollin Rathel, Mike Sanders, Steve Spooner, Derrell Tomlin Future Homemakers of A merica: Glenda Braswell, Lu cia Ann Kidd, Jan Middleton, Elaine North, Gail Smith, Sandra Spooner and Ruth Wetherington. The awards were prepared by Francis Santi who made a speech to the graduates and others assembled, in which he praised their accomplishments and urged them to put their talent and energy into the continuing effort to create a w’orld of peace. New officers were installed by Mrs. J- R. Pinson of Bacon ton, a past president of the state PTA congress. The PTA is divided in two categories now, one unit for the high school, the other for the elementary. Mrs. Ross Thomas is the new co-ordina tor of the two, succeeding Mrs.Tlugh Broome. New chairman of the high school unit is Charles Bridges, with Mrs. Broome as co-chair man. Mrs. Ethel Bramlet is secretary, Mrs. Bob Ward, treasurer, and Mrs. E. P. Tru lock, parliamentarian. They succeed Mrs. Flora ■Spooner and Mrs. C. 0. Her rington as co-chairmen. Oth ers succeed themselves. For the elementary school, new officers are Mrs. Roy Pierce and Mrs. Clifford Mood y, co-chairmes; returning to office are Mrs. Marjie Moore, secretary, Mrs. Norman Hat cher, treasurer, and Mrs. C. C. Stewart, parliamentar ian. The hospitality committees of both units were responsible for the refreshments which included punch, green and white mints, nuts, and a cake beautifully decorated with lit tle dolls wearing caps and gowns, in honor of the special guests of the evening, the members of the senior class. The committee had asked girls in the tenth and eleven th grades who had brothers or sisters in the senior class to serve, and the FHA girls kept the nursery. Reports on the work during the school term were made. These included the report by Charles Bridges on the Hallo we’en carnival that cleared Day 1n... Day Out... Mrs. Joe Petro and daught er Jo Ann arrived here Mon day from Granberry, N. J. to spend some time w r ith Mr. and Mrs. A. Y. Faircloth. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Clarke of Greenville, Fla., spent Sat urday night with Mr. and Mrs- Cleveland Williams. ! Folks from miles around TRINITY CLUB STUDIES CARPETS ! The Trinity home demon stration club held its regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. R. F- Spooner recently with Mrs. W. 0. Herrington serving as co-hostess. , Miss Mary Ann Eason gave a demonstration on carpeting ( and floor covering. She had samples of different kinds and told of their quality. She also ( had samples of different types of paddings for carpets and told of their quality. She ex plained the different methods of cleaning and care of car pets and rugs. Each person was given a helpful book on the easy care of carpets and rugs. After the meeting adjourn ed, refreshments were served. A surprise shower was given |to Mrs. Mary Ann Parker- —reporter, Jeanett Barnhill ■ $168.99.; Dr. Charles Stewart and his health committee re ported that eyes of all stud ents in the first, fourth and seventh grades had been ex amined. Also state worker checked children in the same grades. A pre-school clinic was held with 72 children at attending. Mrs. Henry Durham report ed an art exhibit provided by Mrs- Herb Crosby. Several examples of finger paintings by six-, seven- and eight-vear olds were on dis play Mrs. Durham provided for public i school music for members of the third and fourth grades once a week during the school year. The organization gave S3OO. to the elementary school fac ulty and they decided to use it to purchase a reading ma chine, and the treasury has a balance of $161.86 to carry into the new year.
