Dear Sir:
I would like to personally
express my appreciation in be
half our entire county to Mr.
J. J. McDonough and to the
Georgia Power Company and
their vision, leadership and
generosity in creating the
“Guide for the Development
of Community Recreation.”
The members of our recrea
tion study committee each
have been furnished with
complimentary copies of this
guide by the Georgia Power
Company. This booklet is be
ing an invaluable tool in the
hands of this s tudy commit
tee.
The committee has already
had one meeting with Mr.
John Davis, executive director
of the Georgia Recreation
Commission and will meet
with him again on Monday
night, May 18th.
When this committee com
pletes its study and makes its
recommendations, we feel that
the entire county will be en
thusiastic in its support of
the plans for the future.

ing. Mrs- Cheshire is the for

Julian Webb are the proud
grandparents.
Major John D. (Dan, as we
know him) Mosley, in cere
monies at Ohio State Univer
sity received the U. S. Air
Force’s second highest peace
time award, the Legion of
Merit.
Now taking graduate work
at OSU, he was in charge of
the project which sent two
champanzees, Ham and Enos,
into space in 1961.
The citation commends his
“exceptionally meritor io u s
conduct white serving as spec
ial projects officer of the 6571
Aeromedical Research Labor
atory at Holloman AFB, New
Mexico, from November 1959,
through December 1961. He
provided the leadership and
management which made suc
cessful the suborbital and or
bital flights of the chimps.”
Major Mosley is the son of
Mrs. Ralph Mosley of Donal
sonville.

OBITUARIES
James Edward Beard
Friends regret to learn of
the death of James Edward
Beard, 20, who died Sunday
morning when his automobile
overturned near Baldwin, Fla.
He had been to Fernandino
Beach with his family, Mr.
and Mrs. James Beard, and he
was returning to Tallahassee
where he was a student on a
scholarship at FSU.
His mother is the former
Doris Martin of Iron City, and
his grandfather is W. E. Mar
tin, Iron City.
Those attending his funer

ley Tolar, Miss Johnie Martin,
W. E. Martin, Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Thomas, and Mrs. Nita
Harrell.
Thomas Jeff Glisson
Funeral services for Thom
as Jeff Glisson, 44, of Cyrene,
formerly o f Donalsonville,
were held Wednesday after
noon in the chapel of Evans
Funeral Home. Rev. C. A.
Gilbert and Rev. Gerald Palm
er officiated, and interment
was in the Corinth Free Wilt
Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles
Glisson, Allen Collins, Ladon
Swanner, David Collins, Jo
speh Cross and Stephen Coll
ins.
Mr. Glisson died Tuesday
morning in a Bainbridge hos
pital following a heart attack.
The son of the late Riley
Glisson and Annie Cunning
ham Glisson, he was a native
cf Miller County and had been
employed by the Cyrene Tur
pentine Company for several
years.
Survivors include his wid
ow, Mrs. Audrey Cross, Cy-
Mrs. A. L. Hay, Sr. and
Mrs. M. M. Minter, Jr. visited
the A. L. Hays, Jr. in Savan
nah over the week end.

Mrs. Clyde Holloway
Funeral services for Mrs.
Clyde Holloway, 78, of Bas
com, were held Monday after
noon in the Hickory Grove
Free Will Baptist Church.
Rev. Chester Pelt and Rev.
Daniel Pelt officiated and in
terment was in the church
cemetery with Evans Funeral
Home directing.
Mrs. Holloway died Satur
day afternoon in a Donalson
ville hospital after a lengthy
illness. She was a lifelong res
ident of Jackson County.
Surviving are her husiband,
two sons, Herman Ditty, Ma
lone, Leroy Ditty, Bascom;
two daughters, Mrs- Onnie
Jordan, Bascom, Mrs. Bert Mc-
Donald, Malone, a sister, Mrs.
Annie Hunt, Jacksonville, 13
grandchildren and 15 great
grandchildren.
