school teams-
Several clubs in the county
are helping stage the pro
gram. Several home demon
stration club members will
bake cakes to be sold, says
Luther Sipooner, SAC presi
dent.
Spooner says members of
the baseball, basketball and
football teams will be intro
duced. The school band is to
play, and the cheerleaders are
to perform, Spooner says.
Spooner says the objective
behind the project is simply
to support the high school’s
athletic program. SAC plans
to offer its help to all the
teams, but since football sea
son comes first, that team is
receiving first attention.
“We want to emphasize we
are not trying to meddle in
the present sports program.

We are not going to try to do
anything that school officials
object to, for we realize they
are in charge of the program,
and we simply want to help in
I any way possible,” Spooner
commented. “Naturally, ever
ything costs money these
days, and we need operating
, funds. That’s why we are hav
ing this barbecue and sale-”
Spooner said SAC is still
looking for members, and all
people who are interested in
young people are eligible. “Do
not wait for someone to con
tact you to join. Volunteer to
one of the present members,”
Spooner suggests.

these improvements, howev
er. r'nm plans are expected
soon for a new city ibuiiamg,
to house the city clerk's 1 of
fice, and other ottices of the
city departments. Recent
studies have resulted in the
city’s operating on a budget,
and a planning commission
meets regularly to seek ways
to bring further improve
ments into being.
The improvements have
been planned and brought in
to being over a number of
years. The city’s tax struc
ture was Changed two years
ago when a re-examination
was made of property valua
tion, resulting in some change
in the amount of taxes paid.
As a whole, however, few tax
payers felt extreme increases,
so it is almost possible to say
the things were done with no
bond issue or major increase
in taxation.
Arden Parker is mayor of
Donalsonville, and councilmen
are Jack Wright, Goree John
son, L. J. Easom and Carl
Spooner, Jr.
The other improvements
are impressive, but none of
them seems more exciting
than the shiny red fire eng
ine. Water tanks and payed
streets are nice, but this fire
truck, wow! say the firemen,
and you almost want to say
amen!
