Built-In Range
When buying and install
ing a built-in-range, there are
several things to keep in mind.
Let’s consider some of these.
1. Ilf you buy color, the
oven and surface don’t have
to be the same color. You
might like for the oven to
blend with the wall or cabi
nets and the surface section
to blend with the countertop.
2. Built-ins require more
space than free-standing
ranges.
3. Don’t ever install the
oven and the surface section
side by side with no space be
tween. You need a place to set
things. They don’t even have
to be on the same wall.
4. Be sure to get the oven
the correct height for you.
You shouldn’t have to strain
or stoop to put food in or
take it out.
6. Do consider a double
an exhaust fan over the sur
face section and a fan made
for over the oven is available
should you desire it.
6. Do sonsider a double
oven built-in. Two ovens are
always handy to have-
7. Install oven so it does
not open into a traffic path.

Comparative Shopping
The comparative food shop
per will find the U. S. De
partment of Agriculture’s
grades a big help in selecting
grocery items.
These quality ratings are
plainly marked on the pack
age-or on the product, in the
case of meat. They are usual
ly within a shield-shaped in
signia and preceded by the
letters U. S. or USiDA.
Not all foods are graded.
Grading is voluntary and
users pay for the service.
Although the grade names
used on different foods vary
(some are letters, some num
erals, some word designa
tions), it is easy to make a
quality comparison within
each food group. For example,
U. S. Prime, U. S- Choice, and
U. S. Good are the three top
grades for meat.
Here are some other grades
you may see in the grocery
store:
Poultry, U. S. Grades A and
B-
Eggs, fresh fancy quality,
U. S. grades AA, A and B.
(eggs are also classified as to
size. The most commonly
marketed sizes are extra
large, large, medium, and
small. Size does not affect the
quality grade, nor vice versa.)

His Background and Experience
195019'53 Executive Secretary to Congressman
E. E. Cox.
1956 Appointed by Senator Richard B. Russell to
the position of Staff Director of the Senate Armed
Services Committee. Served in this capacity until May,
1964 when he resigned to run for Congress. In this
position, Harry Wingate supervised the work of 18
Committee Staff Members and worked closely with the
Committee Senate members, including such men as
Barry Goldwater, Harry Byrd, Strom Thurmond, and,
of course, Dick Russell. The actual work Harry Wing
ate did was legislative and administrative work in the
Congress of the United States, drawing up drafts of
legislation, advising Senators concerning legislative
matters, and working with the leaders in every branch
of our government. Nine-tenths of the work done in
Congress is handled through the committee structure;
the committee is the backbone of our congressional
processes. Harry Wingate has served for eight years
as Staff Director of one of the most powerful commit
tees on Capitol Hill, and through this work has acquir
ed the most vital experience any Freshman congress
man could possibly have. This fact certainly lends
authenticity to his campaign slogan. “Trained to Serve,
Ready to Start.”
His Political Views
STATES RIGHTS
Governmental power is already dangerously cen
tralized in Washington, and our country will soon be on
a one-way street headed toward the abolition of all lo
cal and state governments. The U. S. Constitution
clearly says that all powers not specifically granted to
the Federal Government must remain the sole respon
sibility of the individual states. As your Congressman,
I will demand that these powers be returned to the
states and remain solely with the states.
CIVIL RIGHTS
The Civil Rights Law is an example of the en
croachment by the Federal Government in an area of
responsibility that rightfully belongs to the states-
This repulsive law usurps the most fundamental rights
guaranteed to every American - among them the right
to choose our own associates, the right to own and
control our own property, and the rights of business
men to determine whom he will or W|ll not hire, whom
he will or will not promote, and whom he will or will
not fire. This law ignores and destroys the cherished
constitutional concept of equal rights for all, but spec
ial privileges to none.” As your Congressman, I will
work for the repeal of this law.
FOREIGN AID
I sympathize with the need for economic assist
ance to underdeveloped nations. However, I cannot
sympathize with the present free-for-all, give-away
policy of the United States. Experience has proved
that we have been unsuccessful in our attempt to buy
friends. We must put our aid programs on a business
like basis. We should continue foreign aid, certainly,
but let us continue it through legitimate bans, not out
right handouts, and let those loans be given to count
ries which are willing to deserve our assistance and

FISCAL POLICY
There is no doubt that continued deficit spending
endangers our economy. The great financial hoax of the
time is that we can spend more than we have and stay
on sound financial ground. In times of prosperity and
peace, not only should the budget be balanced, but a
portion of the budget should also be set aside to pay
off the national debt- The way to reduce taxes is to
balance the budget with efficiency and planning, not
to spend ourselves further into debt.
On the Local Level
AGRICULTURE
Farm production in the Second District is the
most diversified in the State of Georgia; it is the very
backbone of the economy of our area. Certainly no noe
knows this fact better than I do. I was bom and rear
ed in a farm family. I earned an Agriculture Degree
from the University of Georgia. My father has de
voted his entire life to the Southern farmer, 17 years
of which he was President of the Georgia Farm Bu
reau Federation. Even now lam engaged in farming
with my father in Pelham. • -
I know that the salvation of the small farmer and
those who depend upon the farmer for their livelihood
is a guaranteed fair price support for the farmer’s
crops. As your Congressman, I will do all I can to in
sure that the farmer does not perish from the lack of
an ample and fair income from his work.
INDUSTRY
To supplement our natural resources, to create
jobs for the unemployed, and to bring more income in
to our district. I will work for programs that will pro
vide industry for our area. Among these programs will
be the construction of ample highway networks, the
development of our waterways such as the Flint River
projects, and the fullest possible cooperation with the
Chambers of Commerce in every locality.
MILITARY BASES
I am keenly aware of the extremely important role
that Turner Air Force Base and the Marine Corps Sup
ply Depot play in the conomy of our entire area. The
Federal Government has 102 million dollars invested
in these two bases, and they have a combined annual
payroll of more than 46 million dollars 1 , the major por
tion of which is spent and invested in the Second Dis
trict-
As Staff Director of the Senate Armed Services
Committee, I have worked closely with officials from
both the Pentagon and these two installations. With
the knowledge of military affairs and the contacts in
the. military field that I have gained through my work,
I would be in an excellent position as your congress
man to protect the interests of those who are directly
or indirectly dependent upon these bases for their live-
FEDERAL BUILDINGS
Federal building facilities in many of our towns
and cities are inadequate and deplorable. There is a
crying need in several parts of our district for build
ing? t 2,. hous lJ >ost office& court rooms and other fed
eral offices. The construction of such buildings brings
not only useful and attractive additions to the area,
but it also creates new jobs. As your congressman, I
will deave no stone unturned in my efforts to secure
these much-needed buildings.
VETERANS
, a for a complete review of veterans
benefits* Muny of the pensions that our veterans are
now receiving amount to no more than coffee money. I
fax or raising the exemption on other income high e
nough to enable those veterans who qualify to draw a
reasonable, fair and adequate pension.
Thei e is a critical shortage of beds and there are
inadequate hospiptal facilities for veterans in the Sec
ond District. This problem is rapidly becoming even
more acute with the influx of World War II veterans
now needing medical assistance. I will stronglv advo
cate and support the establishment of a modem veter
ans hospital to be located in the Second Dfcrtrict to
accommodate this entire area. airier w
