Bobcats unleash Moore power in
19-0 clawing of Indians in opener
by Dotg Bradford* Editor, The Dothan Eagle
FHE 1964 season may show that Blakely doesn’t have the
football team it did last year—.when the Bobcats won the
sub-region title—-but one fact the season opener brought out
in Blakely Friday night. There’s a high-scoring fullback in
town.
He’s Butch Moore and he
scored every point for Coach
Ray Knight’s Bobcats as they
shut out the Seminole County
Indians from Donalsonville
19-0..
All of which resulted in the
Indians dropping their 24th
game in a row. Coach Den
vafd Snell’s Indians showed
some stiff defense on occa
sions, but couldn’t get their
offense rolling.
The lid-lifter for Wiregrass
regular season high school
football saw Blakely dominate
things from the opening gun.
The ’Cats scored on their
second series with a 67-yard
sustained drive that saw five

first downs racked up—all on
the ground.
The going got sticky once
the Bobcats penetrated the
Seminole 10, however, and' it
was fourth down and two
i plays in the second quarter
[when quarterback Jerry Glea
ton found Moore in the end
zone. The big fullback jumped
high, caught the pass and
, scored six points, the aerial
i covering the final four yards.
Moore also ran over the
point after and the Bobcats
had all the points they need
ed.
j But Knight’s gridders, who
now have beaten Donalson
ville 11 straight times, were
not quite through.
j They scored again before
the bands marched, going 83
yards with halfback Jeff Cot
ton the workhorse. Cotton
reeled off the two longest
gainers of the drive, 16 and
20 yards. It was second-and
four with just 47 seconds left
in the half when Moore bulled
off right tackle for the second
marker. He tried to run the
point again, but fell short and
Blakely had a 13-0 margin for
j intermission.
The two teams had another
scoreless quarter in the third
before the Bobcats broke the i
[ide’ again in the fourth. This
scoring drive was a 49-yarder
—37 of them on one dazzling
by halfback Andy
“tVhite.
It was fourth down again
arid only 26 seconds remained
in the game when Moore took
charge again, ripping oyer
from the four for his third
TD strike of the evening. Sam ,
Clinkscales tried to rum the I
PAT, but missed and Blakely
had its 19-0 shutout.
Seminole County did not
mount a scoring threat. Deep
est Snell’s Tribe could get was
to the Blakely 45 twice in the
game once in the second
frame when the Bobcats
muffed a punt and Donalson
ville recovered, and again late
in the fourth when a Mike
Bowen to Jack Ivey pass car
ried to that point.
