Albany, Ga., Oct. 17.—Wrapped in a blood-stained bed quilt, and horibly decomposed, the body of Earle E. Barksdale, of Tampa,Fla., who had been missing for a week, was found in an abandoned well on a cotton plantation'between Newton and Leary, yesterday. Following an investiga'i >n by the coroner it developed that one of the most revolting crimes in the history of this section of the state has been committed and three men are in jail, charged with murder, and a fourth warrant is out for a woman who is suspected of complicity in was found the homicide, in a well on the Dilldine place. Trying to Force Settlement. Barksdale went to Baker county county several w^eks ago for the purpose, it is stated, of securing a settlement from Jesse Hudgens of a financial claim amounting to sev eral hundred dollars. Hudgens, who is a young man, had worked for Barksdale in Tam pa, and Barksdale followed his for mer employe to Georgia for the pur pose, it is stated, os forcing a set tlement. Barksdale is said to have declared that forgery figured in the Tampa case, and had in his possession cer tain. checks and other papers which are expected to play an important part in further investigations into the tragedy. Barksdale followed Hudgens to the latter’s mother’s place, where Hudgens went after- coming from Thampa. In the meantime. Barksdale remained at Hudgens’ home. Disappeared a Week Ago A little over a week ago Barksdale disappeared; and it was given out that he had returned to Tampa. Saturday morning a negro? reported finding a body in an abandoned well in a cotton field and an investiga tion showed the corpse to be that of Barksdale.
