Mr. T hos. Wight, , ,,
Chairman Board Commissioners
Grady County. .
Sir: ' Our bid for publishing"fhc
minutes of the commissioners court
of Grady county, together wilti such
notices that wo can publish, is
85.00 per month. This not to in
clude the payment for the general
presentments of tho grand jury.
Yours truly,
T. A. J. Majors,
Editor and Publisher,
Cairo, Grady County, Ga., March
20th, 1911.
To the Honorable Board of Com
missioners of Roads and Revenues
for Grady County.
Gentlemen: Having been asked by
your “committee” for a “bid” on
your public printing, l beg to state
the following:
The Cairo Messenger is either the
official organ of Grady county or it
is not. If it is.vour bids, contracts
and petitions are provided for by
the law regulating other legal ad
vertising. So this part of your
printing is not to be “Auctioned
off.
As to the “Minutes” of your
business proceedings, your request
for a “bid” seems unreasonable in
the light of your precedent in tak
ing the said business from The
Cairo Messenger, and giving the
same to The Grady County Prog
ress, because, ae you understood,
it ivas then the Official Organ of
Grady County, without permitting
the Messenger to bid on said work.
Since you are sworn Officials, and
have gone on record in this matter,
I see no reason why you should ask
the Messenger to bid against a pa
per that proposes to do it for noth
ing. However; here is our bid
For your Legfil Printing, such as
bids, contracts and petitions, Legal
rates will be charged.
For the Minutes of your business
proceedings, $6.25 (Six & 25-100
Dollars) per month, will be charged.
Respectfully submitted by,
The Cairo Messenger,
Per J. B. Wind, Bus. Mgr.

fARNIKfi 6IVEN THE
PEOPLE BY J. B. WIGHT
gents Going Through County
Selling Worthless Trees and
Probably Other Articles
A Card From J. B. Wight
Cairo, Ga., April 10, 1911,
|fr. Editor:— It is said that peo-
e like to be swindled; and whether
ey like it or not, this is frequently
ne. One of our most common
indies is practiced by travling
:ents. It is true that traveling
jents sometimes sell good things
t it is also true that in most
ses the articles they sell or
tmething just as good, can be
ught from a regular dealer for a
is price than is paid to the agent,
e reason for this 'will appear to
y thinking man. As an example
this, many will recall some parties
o several years ago worked a good
rt of Grady county selling Russian
ul berry trees. These were repre-
mted to be a very superior mul-
|errv. Many people bought them
$1.00 each or $10 per dozen,
ost persons know what the result
as, These trees proved practically
orthless; and nearly all of them
ave either died or have been cut
own. Incidentally should any
e now want some of these trees, I
jin get them for tkem at $2,0Q per
ndred or 810 per thousand, this
ing the wholesale price quoted by
rserymen in the northwest, where
ese trees are used to some extent.
But I write this particularly to
.rn the people against a certain one
[ho has recently been selling trees
Grady county, Ilis represen-
itions are such that no other con
clusion cap be reached than that he
is either ignorant or he is a fraud.
I feel it my duty to say this much
and I say it not as a nurseryman,
but as one who feels that people
should be yarned against those who
arc not giving yalue received for
what they sell.
