Baker Ellis, an African of Gradyville, got gay Friday night and fired his gun into hn occu pied residence of the village and was arranged before Judge Singletary Saturday who called on him for a speech. The Judge says, "Baker what you got to say?” the coon imme diately got up, bewed, and savs, "Judge. I’se guilty,” The Judge gave him twelve months. One of the most brilliant social events in the history of Cairo’s social arena, was the miscelane- ous shower given Mrs. Grover Posey by Misses Mary and Nola Bell on Friday afternoon, August 5th. The invited guests began to assemble at 4 o’clock and were met at the door by Miss Nola Bell and escorted to the punch bowl on the end of the porch where they served delicious grape juice punch by Misses Lucy Bell and Ama Brown; they were then invited into the beautifully dec orated parlor by. Miss Mary Bell and Mrs. Charlie L. Browne where they all had a good time preparing the shower. At 5 o’olock Mrs. Posey arrived in a carriage with Mrs. J. E. Hursi and was blindfolded at the door and led in the parlor where she was seated under the shower in a rocker; the beautiful crepe paper holder was then untied and a large and various assortment of beautiful gifts fell to the bride’s lap; the blindfold was then removed from her eyes that she might see how she had been remembered by her friends. After all had finished looking at the presents they were invited to, the dining hall where delicious ice cream and cake were served. .Mrs. Posey was’ handsomely gowned in a white Marquerite over green silk. What is consideredjto be , by those who attended, the feature of this summer’s society was the entertainment given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coppage last Tuesday night in honor of Miss Flossie Carter, of Meigs, who was the guest of Miss Ma donna Dyson, to the younger set of Cairo’s "Goslins.” Many delightful games were played and highly enjoyed by all. Delightful punch was served from a very cosy nook- on the front porch. Mr, and Mrs. 1 Coppage have proven theirselves to- be the champion host and hostess of .the season. The punch that was served has been given the honor of being the best that was ever set before a crowd of young people. At a very late hour (for the invitations read from 8 uutil you get tired, and there was no danger of anyone getting tired of such a nice time) the guests began to disperse all^ voting the host and hostess one of the most pleasant evenings of their lives Those present were: Misses Mary, Alma and Lucy Bell, Madonna Dyson, Flossie Carter, of Meigs, Hazel Harrell, Kathleen Smith, of Thomasville, Miss Cop page, Freddielou Purcell, Pauline Oates, Lucile Stringer, Ollie Bennett, Katherine Brown.
