Although the Fair is but a short time away, and the
people are eagerly expecting and awaiting the four days
on which it will be held, at is apparent that the true sig-
nificence of the-fair is not grasped by a large number of
the people of the county. A large number of our citizens
look toward the Fair merely as a place of amusement
where they can meet their friends, and enjoy a few hours
respite from the duties of their various calling.
While it is true that the amusement side of the fair
does, and should appeal strongly to the people, yet the
educational and publicity features of the occasion are too
great to be overlooked. At the fair we will expect to be
able to see nearly every kind of product capable of being
raised in South Georgia, all having been produced right
here at home, and we will expect to see .the products of
the handiwork of the people of the county, In whatever
way it may be displayed. This is not all: there should be
exhibited some of the best m< chanical appliances man - ^
factured for the use of the farmer, as well as for other
classes of citizens. .
The great appeal that the fair makes to every citizen
is to his pride; pride is the work of his hands; pride is the
fertility and productiveness of his county; pride is the en
ergy and ambition of his people. The man who is proud
of his county is most likely to be interested in its welfare
ard development; is most likely to be aggressive in dem
onstrating to others the advantages of the country, and in
encouraging the best class of people to come with him in
to the country whe:e he has “made good”, and which of
fers abundant reward to the agriculturist who may not
have been so advantageously situated elsewhere. .
Every person in the county should take a personal in
terest in the coming fair, and should exert overy influence
in making it a really great occasion for the county. If he
is not able financially to subscribe money for the expenses
of the fair, that is all the more reason for him making
every effort to have as many good exhibits on display as
possible. The whole country should be represented, and
every section of it, with every, product of the country,
both agricultural and mechanical, as well as manal.
While the matter has not been settled, it is expected
that Grady county will exhibit at the coming South Geor
gia Land and Agricultural Exposition at Tifton. Every
exhibiton should try to have his exhibits at the county fair
sent to Tifton, and especially|the prize winners. If this,
could be done, Grady would make a fipe - showing at Tif
ton and would win favor at the hand bf her sister coum
ties. We have the products; let us have them displayed
where other counties can see what we ( do, it will be a
good advertisement for Grady county to send many of
her displays from her own fair to Tifton. Mr. Exhibitor,
wont you see that YOUR display goes there? It wont
cost you anyihing to ship it, as the express company and
the railroad will carry it free,- and the exhibition space is
Tree also.
