Messrs Pope and McEarchern
spent a day or two in Tallahassee
first of the week.
Mr. N. M. Beckham, who has
made Thomas County his home
for some time is now a resident
of Grady County. He has re
cently purchased a horn? near
Cairo, and will live there in fut
ure. While Thomas county re
grets to lose Mr. Beckham, Grady
will gain a good substantial far

We note that most of the towns
in Soutwest Georgia are to have a
cleaning up day some time soon.
Why not Cairo? Let us keep the
town clean and healthful and
beautiful.
Hon. I-I. H. Merry, of Pelham
was one of the prominent attor
neys attending court this week.
Mr. Merry is not only a good
lawyer, but is also a banker and
a newspaper man, and each vo
cation is honored by his being a
representative thereof.
Judge W. H. Harrell, the elo
quent Bainbridge orator, juriest
and lawyer, was a prominent
figure at court this week.
Mr. J. A. Pope of Akridge,
was a visitor to Cairo Monday
and entered his name on the
Progress subscription list. He
is the youngest old man in all
t ;e county of Gradv- He is going
• in 82 years of age, enjoys the
best of health and says he feels
as good as he ever did.
Sunday was not a bad day;

Hon. E. P. Denmark, the well
known Valdosta lawyer, was at
tending court here this week.
“Yes,’’ said Mr. Denmark, “you
certainly have one of the best
:ounties in all this State. Grady
lounty is alright and Cairo is
famous even beyond the borders
of Georgia.’’
Mr. H. D. Connell, postmaster
at Reno was in town Tuesday,
attenbing court. Mr. Connell
spoke very encouragingly of the
collard crop around Reno. He
said that the prospects were very
fine for a good yield. One acre
produces about 25Q pounds of
seed, and the price is 25c per
pound. One firm at Reno last
year bought $4,000 worth of col
lard seed.
We thought it was young men
who reaped wild oats, but Deputy
Stanfill, some 60 years old,reaped
his Tuesday night. Mr. Stanfill
succeeded in landing his Oats in
jail-one Adam Oats, colored, who
broke jail some two weeks ago
and made good his escape. Mr.
Stanfill located his man below
Calvary, and about one o’clock
Wednesday morning he ‘nabbed’
him and brought him back lor
trial on a charge of burglary.
The Grand Jury, from the looks
of things around the door, is hav
ing good business. Thai no one
on the outside can tell how much
‘of it will stick.
