To The Citizens and Tax
Payers of Grady County
Realizing that all new laws
must be understood to be obeyed,
we the tax adjusters selected by
the County Commissioners to
perform this duty give below
some sections and other inform; -
tisn that may aid you in comply
ing with this law. One secticn
is: The board is clothed with
authority to issue subpoenas for
the attendance of witnesses, and
to require the production by an>
person of his books, papers anr’
documents which may throw an\
light upon the question of the
existence or liability of property
for taxation.
Another section reads: If the
State Tax Commissioner after
carefully examining t he digest,
after comparing the digest with
that o t other counties o f
the stateshould deter
mine that the value in one
county were not reasonably uni
form with the values of the same
class of prosperity in other coun
ties it is his duty either by add
ing a . fixed per centum to the
counto valuation too high, as tr
.make the same classes of proper
ty reasonably uniform.
In order to inform the citizen;
of Grady county comparing with
the three border Georgia coun
ties w'e give figures as furnished
by Judge Jno. C. Hart. Aver
age land of Grady connty 4:62:
Decatur county 6.26; Thoma;
county 7:41; Mitchell county 606:
This is returns for 1913.
Some lands returned within
two miles of Cairo at $6 while
others with no better improve
ments and hardly as good land
$20, • Some land 6 to 8 miles at
82 or less others similar at five or
more.
Some merchandise stocks

Judge Hart further says:

We are sorry to say that Mrr.
D, I. Smith is on the sick list,
we hope for her a speedy recov
ery.

Cook, attended Sunday School at
Capel Sunday p. m.
There will be a box supper at
Pleasant Grove Friday night,
March 13th. everybody is invitee
to come, the girls will please brim
well filled boxes and the boys
bring a well filled pocket-book

The League conference was
well attended here Thursday and
Friday there being about seventy
five delegates from most all over
Southwest Georgia and the ser
mons and lectures were ver.\
much enjoyed by all.
Miss Jesse Parker spent Sun
day at home returning to Thom-
asville Monday to assist in the
millinery opening which will be
Friday and Saturday of thi
week.

South Carolina are visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Par
ker.
Miss Marie Jones spent the
week-end with her sister, Miss
Etta at Golden Rod school, and
attended the box supper given
by the teachers, Misses Etta
Jones and Bertha Maxwell.
Miss Eunice Parker of South
Carolina, is the charming guest
of her brother, Mr. Will Parker
and wife.
Rev. Leland Moore filled the
pulpit at the Methodist church in
the absence of the pastor, Rev
Anderson.
Mrs. M. M. Me Cord shopped
in Thomasville, Monday after
noon.
Miss Sallie Jordan our efficient
assistent post Mistress was on
the sick list last week, but . we
glad to say, is at. her post again.
Miss Bertha. Parker, of Open
Pond section visited in Whigham
Sunday.
Mr. J. O. Williams has been
very sick with pneumonia for the
past week.
New goods are arriving daily
at Miss Lena Belcher’s millinery
store, call and see them.
Mrs. Alta Graham of Criro,
visited her sister. Mrs. G. B. Mc-
Elvy Tuesday.
Mrs. George Mills is on the
