CAIRO HIGH SCHOOL
On Friday afternoon of last
week was Held the preliniinry
competitive field day exercises
by the pupils of the high school.
The purpose of this event was to
definitely es.ertain the repre
sentatives qf our school at the an
nual pneet which is to be held in
Camilla the 9th and 10 of April.
Despite the damp ’ ground and
cold weather quite an attractive
program was carried out before a
good size crowd. The records
made by the high school boys
were gratifying in view of the
fact that the grounds were fresh
ly ploughed which proved a handi
cap to the runners and jumpers.
The following contests were en
gaged in as follows: 100 yard
dash, won by Alton Arline in 13
seconds; 220 yard dash won by
Harry Kelley in 33 seconds; 440
yard dash won by Clyde Laing in
1 minute 9 seconds. The rplay
team, composed of Carl Brown,
Robert Hudson, Clarence Owen,
and Harry Kelley won the hall
mile race in 1 minute 55 seconds;
standing broad jump won by Wes
ley Smith 9 ft; standing high
jump won by Alton Arline 3 ft, 7
in; running broad jump .won by
Alton Arline, 15 ft. 5 in: running
nigh jump won by Lawrence
Powell and Frank Searcy; shot
put won by Lawrence Powell 31
ft. 6 in; base ball throw won by
Alton Arline, 92 vards. The
boys are taking daily practice in
order that they might make a
favorable showing at the Con
gressional District meet next
month, all are anxious to bring
the loving cup back to CaRo.

return all property held by them on the
1st day of January of each year for
taxation, instead of on a date heretofore
fixed by a board composed of the Gov.,
Treasurer and Comptroler General.
2nd—Tax receivers are required to open
their hooks for receiving Tax returns of
the tax payers of their county on the
1st day of February of each year, in
stead of on the 1st day of April, as
heretofore.
3rd—Tax Receivers lire required to
close their hooks on the 1st day of May
of each year.
