LaGrange is going after an
other cotton mill in the right
way by raising $500,000. Half
of the amount was subscribed
the first day. Col. Callaway
and LaGrange already have sev
eral big mills and know their
value^q the community. More
cotton ihills are needed in opera
tion now over the South.
Washington , D. C., Septem
her 30th—The Georgia Irish po
tato patch contains 12,000 acres
this year and the total produc
tion will be approximately 764,
000 bushels, according to esti
mates made today by the Unitec
States Reporting Board. The
condition of the crop is 70 pei
cent, of normal, and the price
at the present time is averaging
around $1.14 per bushel.
In Continental United States
there are 3,708,000 acres planted
to this product and this year’s
production is estimated at 360,
614.000 bushels by the Federal
Department of Agriculture.
This year’s crop will exceed the
average crop of the past five
years by approximately 4,000,000
bushels. The nation’s produc
tion last year was 331,525,000
bushels produced on 3,668,000
acres of land, and sold for 8227,-
903.000 or an average of 90 cents
per bushel.

Day,” to urge the use of cotton
in new ways and thereby in
crease the demand for it.

Whereas, The General Assembly at its session in 1914 proposed an
amendment to the Constitution of this State as set forth In an Act approv
ed July 27, 1914, to-wlt:
An Act to propose to the qualified electors of this State an amendment
to paragraph two, of section one, of article eleven, of the Constitution ot
this State as amended by the ratification by the qualified voters of this StaU
of the Act approved July 19, 1904, and further amended by the ratification,
by the qualified voters of this State of an amendatory Act approved Jul;
31st, 1906, and for other purposes:
Section 1. Bo it enacted by the General Assembly of the State o'
Georgia that the following amendment is hereby proposed to Paragraph 2,
of Section 1, of Article 11, of the Constitution of this State as amended by
the ratification by the qualified voters of this State of the Act of July 19th,
1004, and further amended by the ratification by the qualified voters of till
State, of on amendatory Act approved July 31, 1906, to-wlt: by addlnt,

Sec. 2. That Alma, Ga., shhll he the County Site of said County; th:
the said county shall be attached to the Eleventh Congressional District ai.-
to the Waycross Judicial Circuit and to the Third Senatorial District. Th;
all the legal voters residing In the limits of said County of Bacon, entitle
to vote for members'of the General Assembly under the laws of Georgl
shall on the first Tuesday in January, 1916 ,at Alma, Ga., the County SI
of said county, elect an Ordinary, a Clerk of the Superior Court, a Sherif
a Coroner, a Tax Collector, a Tax Receiver, a County Surveyor, a Count
School Superintendent, and a County Treasurer. The limits of said Count
the Congressional and Senatorial Districts and the Judicial Circuit to whit
it Is added shall be as above designated until changed by law. The Supe.

Sec. 3. Be it further enacted, That when this proposed amendme-

Tenn. As the L. & N. is lessee
of the State road this new line it
considered a move to control and
d ctate the re-lease of the W. &
A, when the present lease ex
pires in 1919. The re-lease, sale
or extension of the State road,
extending 137 miles, besides its
side-tracks, etc., from Atlanta
to Chattanooga, Tenn., will be
onq of the most important ques
tions to be handled by the legis
lature of 1915-16, and there is
even talk now of calling a special
session of the Legislature to
thwart the lessees from wreck
ing the State’s property by build
ing the proposed line.
A forecast of 15,300.000 five

department of agriculture’s crop
reporting which showed a condi
tion of Sept. 25th, of 73.5 per

if cotton makes this year’s crop

Last year 14,156,000 bales were

13,703,000 bales.
The September 25th condition
indicates a yield Of about 200
pounds of lint per acre, which,
applied to the estimated area
planted, 36,960,000 acres, would
produce 15.463,000 bales.
An average of one per cent of
the acreage is abandoned each

ing held in and for said ceuntv on

14, did assess the following tax rates
on all property subject to taxation
in said county for the year 1914.

Sixth.—4 cents to pay the expense
incurred in supporting the poor
of the county.
Seventh.—2 cents to pay any
other lawful charges against the
county.
Also, in compliance with the rec-
commendation of the Grand Jury at
the September Term of Superior
Court. 1910 , of said county,' the
following Special Levy was made
and ordered collected, to w'ii:-
