There is more business in Cairo
than any town of twice its size in
South Georgia. This is as it should
be because Cairo is located in the
yery best county in Georgia.
The small boy is counting the
days and hours until Christmas
and some grown up onesjtre ex
pected to count out the cash in
making them have a good time.
Doctor Warnell is making i
most thorough test of various
fruit for this immediate section.
He believes that Grady can pro
duce as fine fruit as any i section
on earth.
We have heard several citizens
express their pleasure of having
Rev. W. L. Wright, as the Meth
odist pastor for another year. He
seems to be tbe right man in the
right place.
It will cost a fellow more now
for marriage license than for
merly. There is fifty cents reve
nue now upon license. It is good
enough for the fellow who has
delayed this important business.
Mr. H. W. Lawson, our genial
railroad agent has set the pace
for ever body in Cairo to follow
He has had the railroad property
in and around the depot put in
neat shape It looks so clean and
nice all around the depot.
Last Saturday we observed
that many different products was
brought into this market for sale.
Among them were turnips, pota
toes, chicken, eggs, pork, bacon,
peas, corn, hay, fodder, syrup,
cotton, lumber and shingles and
doubtless other products which
escaped our notice. How is this
fo~ -’'versity ?
The Pjpe is trying to persuade
the wai zone to hold Up during
the holidays and have a quiet
Christmas. Hardly think that he
will succeed, because during
Christmas time we have more or
less (generally more) shooting
and killing right here in Georgia.
It seems that of all times,it is the
time every fellow wants to shoot
and we presume that the shoot
ing will continue regardles of the
wishes of the Pope. Georgia will
perhaps add to the list of the kill
ed during the holidays.
There is nothing motfd profit*
able than the judicious use of
printers ink. If any business man
doubts this assertion let him
give it a tost and he will find it
to be true.
Shade Griffin reports that ev
erything is unusually quiet a-
round the courthouse for the past
few days. He thinks hpwever that
as the holidays are approaching,
Judge Hatring will soon be doing
a land office business in the way
of issuing marriage license.
Shade s%ys you know that some
people like to get married about
Christmas times.
It is said that the beau monde
is arranging to give us some cu
rious fashion in the early spring.
Well let them.oome,wehave stood
about every thinkable fashion and
maybe wo will sur'vlte any oraze
they can give us. Ou account of
the war we have to generate our
own fashions and then we can tell
whether America or Prance can
get up the most trying fashion.
It is predicted that the new
Mayor will endeavor to have some
arrangements made whereby the
the country people will have a
plac where they can water th6ir
stock when they come to Cairo
without having to infringe upon
private property. Cairo perhaps
is the only town in Georgia
where there is no private water
ing place for stock. This should
not be.
One level-headed, farmer told
ua that he fully intended another
year to be more sedulous and e-
conomic than he had ever been
before in his life. He said that
he. had been doing like many of
the automobile owners—Living
too high and riding too fast
and that he had decided that it
is not so much the high ecst of
living but the high li ving which
costs. Correct, Simon, go up head,
Under a recent decision of the
supreme court of the United
States, which eliminated the dis
crimination complained of by At
lanta and Macon and other Geor
gia cities as to reahipping and re
billing privileges granted Nash
ville on grain produots, Macon
will now become a great grain
center. Grain elevators will be e-
rected in the Central City with
out .delay and the problem of hav
ing a ready market for all grain
will be solved. Macon can now
say to the farmers “ sow all the
grain you will and Macon will
furnish you a ready market.
