THE PENSLAR STORE
Treatment of bogs sick of chol
era in a general way is not very
productive of good results. The
serum treatment when properly
administered has some curative
elTec*s and has given excellent
results as n preventative. It
should by all means be used. If
those who raise hogs will con
form to tho following rules the
spreading of cholera in this sec
tion will be reduced to an extent
that will prove profitable to all.
Keep all hogs away irom pub
lic highways. Do not. let them
drink from a stream that flows
from or through your neigbor’s
pasture. It would bo more eco
nomical to‘dig a well.' Do not
buy any hogs or allow any men
or animals to pass through your
hog pasture. Bury deep or burn
all animal carcasses and spray
contaminated quarters With a
good germacide and' insist that
your neighbor do the same. Each
breeder must own his own stock
or breeding animal and raise his
own supply. In buying breeding
stock,.see that they are healthy
ai d do not breed until they are
mature. Piga from immature
parents are *low in vitality and
cannot resist disease as well as
those of mature parents.
The feed, lot should be kept
clean and dry. Proper feeding
insures thrifty animals. The lor
should be provided with an inex
pensive concrete wallowing vat
and troughs which must be kept
cleansed twice or three times a
week. A supply of clean water
should ke kept constantly before
them. The pens should be disin
fected once in two weeks. Min
erals are an essential element of
hogs diet and a mixture of the
following should be kept before
them constantly:
Charcoal, air slacked lime,
wood ashes and ground rock
phosphate, equal parts by weight
with a liberal amount of common
salt.
Hogs should be kept free of
worms which can be done by the
use of the following:
Santonin 6 grains and calomel
4 grains per each hundred weight
of hogs. They should be spray
ed once a month to free them of
lice. A good mixture for this
purpose is: two parts of crude
and one part of refined kerosene.
These seems to be very simple
thihgs but yet they are essential
in stopping the already rapid
spreading of cholera in this coun
ty and unless some measures are
taken to stop the present out
break, it may prove fatal to a
good percentage of your hogs.
You may obtain the drugs in
cluding Krcso-Dip frem your
druggist.
I will be glad to give any fur
ther information along this line
that 1 can.
Respectfully,
Robert Walsh.
CALLED FOR TUESDAY.

meeting at the court house on
Tuesday May 11 at 10:30 o’clock
d. m.. for the purpose of organi
zing the Grady County Livestock
Association.
Grady Gounty is fast becoming intensified by the presence of
a live stock county. She is now
shipping as many beef cattle us
any county in the state. She is
running Brooks a close second us
a hog county.
The purpose of a county live
stock association is to grow more
and better livestock. To estab
lish a better system of marketing
and to study the causes and con
trol of diseases of live stock.
, I do not believe there is a coun
ty in Georgia better adapted to
the growing of live stock than is
Grady. There are running
streams of pure water cn nearly
every farm. Her soil is naturally
adapted to the growing of pea
nuts, potatoes, beans, and the
grazing crops that Live stock fat
ten and thrive on. There is no
reason why we should not be the
most happy and prosperous peo
ple in Georgia.
No farm is self sustaining with
out live stock on it. No system of
agriculture can be permanent
without live stock. There is
strength in union, so let’s organ
ize for our own benefit and pro
tection. Don’t miss this meet-
