The Base Ball Boys say “Boost
Don’t Knock.”
A man who spent one year in
Grady county some seven or eight
yenrs ago, was here this week and
said that Grady county had made
great, advances since that time. It
is true. Do you believe it?
Do you believe that fresh air and
the great out doors are good for
folks? Then do all you cnn to
fnvor the half-holiday closing,
through the summer.
A little hase ball will beat too
much politics this hot summer
weather.
Most of us will agree that Germ
any deserves a drubbing, and that
she must have it before peace
comes, but we must also agree that
it seems to be several kinds of a
job to give her what is coming to
her.
Thanks 01' Top
The Times- Enterprise of Thom*
asville has gone out of its way to
help us correct the false report that
went out regarding the destruction
of dipping vats in Grady county.
We appreciate this neighborliness
on their part. It is lot \Vith any
“holier than thou” spirit that we
do not want to appear anjong
those who have been t he losers
from the anarchist acts of the vat
destroyers.
We have a lew of the “animals”
over here too, but we are hopeful
that the public sentiment prevail
ing will hold them in check. They
are much in the minority every
where, but that does not prevent
their being responsible for a lot of
bitterness and strife.
ItWill Happen Sometime
The language used [by Sherman
in referring to war seems all too
mild to paint the horrors of the
conflict that is working such ter
rible results in Europe.
Governor Harris is no doubt
lacking in knowledge of some of
the methods of politics that nmy
be possessed by some of his oppon
ents, but we believe that the people
believe that they have an official in
him that can be trusted, and that
they will rally to his support and
give him the other two years that
ho deserves in the Gubernatorial
Chair.
We think that this session of the
legislature should vote to submit
the question of moving the Capitol
to Macon to a vote of the people.
There is no doubt of the fact that
the oapitol should be at Macon,
and we hardly think any one
doubts that it will be there before
very many years; so why not move
it and have the job over with.
Do you know why the dust
mulch is of benefit to your crop?
If you do not, and. don’t care to
learn yourself, have your boy find
out and he can tell you. It is
worth dollars to every farmer.
The Quitman Free Press got
,hold of the report that two vats
had been destroyed, in Grady
county, and gave the matter some
rather strong headlines, but finding
their mistake they have been dili
gent to set us right again. We are
all in the same boat down in this
neck of the state. There is a small
proportion of our citizens whose
minds are so filled with prejudice
and narrowness that they would
rather see property destroyed than
to admit that their position on a
matter might be wrong. Fortun
ately there are only a very few of
this kind, and wo expect the
trouble that has developed in re
gard to tick eradication to soon
pass away.
Results will convince all reason
able men, so as soon as the good
results begin to be in evidence, we
expect to see opposition to dipping
steadily grow less.

Look out for the boll weevil, and
if he puts in his appearance just
remember that every one picked
off and killed, now, means the de

sizable family by late summer.
There were forty colts in the
parade last Saturday, and that is
only a part of those we have in
the county. We have a great
county already, but she must be
made much greater. We believe
there will be two hundred colts at
the colt show of 1917.
Messrs E. A. Parrish and Sons
shipped a splendid load of beef
cattle from here this week. They
have been feeding them on their
farm near Cairo and they were in
prime condition. They were ship
