Korean Sunday School That
Conducts Fifteen Others
How a Korean Sunday School is
in Tokyo, said, “The Sages of
China and Japan have taught
multiplying itself many times over
and thus doing most effective mis
sionary work, is told by Rev. R.
T. Coit, a Southern Presbyterian
missionary stationed at. Soonehun:
“The central Sunday School
here, numbering some 300, con
ducts fifteen Extension Sunday
Schools among the children of the
heathen, and hundreds of children
arc enrolled. We have many such
schools out in the country con
ducted by the country groups. In
this way we not only reach the
children for the church, but many
of their parents also. We conduct
many primary day schools, too, to
teach them to read, so they can
road the Bible in their own Ion
gue. To learn to read in Chinese
characters or ideographs is a task
of from five to ten years. The
Koreans, however, while using the
Chinese, have a much simpler way
of writing used by the common
people and the Bible is printed in
this Korean alphabet”
many noble truths, but they have
too much neglected the spiritual.
Now, no nation which neglects the
spiritual can permanently prosper.
Modern civilization takes its rise
from the teachings of the Sage of
Judea,* in whom alone is found the
dynamic of progress.”
60,000 College Men Give To
Missions
During the last academic year
(1914-15) the American and Cana
dian students, assisted by. friends
and faculty members, contributed
the mugnifieient sum of $217,652

from this section of Grady.

crops are looking fine, especially
with the amount of fertilizer. It

Large Bible Sales in Mexico
■ The American Bible Society is
having large sales of the scriptures
in Mexico in spite of the political
unrest and the economic exhaustion
of the country. At Saltillo, where
there has been considerable oppo
sition, 1,000 books were sold as the
result of a month’s work by one
colporteur. “In San Antonia we
sold over 5,000 books in about two
weeks to a population of Mexicans
estimated to be anywhere from 15,-
0TO to 20,000. In Tampico 3,600
ljghks were sold in a house-to-house
canvass. In Mexico City in ten
days’ time one man pnssing-through
sold 100 Bibles and Testaments,
besides 100 portions, while in
Monterey, in a house-to-house can-
vasflby voluntary workers under
the supervision of Mr. Cole, we
have already distributed nearly
10,000 books.”
All who have failed to make re
turns of your property to the City
of Cairo for year 1916. Your at
tention is again called to the fact
that the time for returning taxes
will soon close as the books will
close for receiving taxes on July the
1st. and the Books on that date
will be turned over to the Board of
Tax Assessors, and as Notice has
already been given that the Law
will allow the hoard to double tax
those who have not made their re
turns by this date as the law pre
scribes. I trust that those who
have not made their returns will do
so at once in order to save any ad
ditional expenses. I am,
Respectfully yours,
J. H. Connell,
City Clerk.

Be sure to attend the June meet

Mr. Wimberley is at Madison,

he will be about well when he re

Well for fear of the waste basket
will ring off, by saying that those
who want(Jo read a good news
paper, and know, what is going
in our county, just drop in and
subscribe for tho Grady County
Progress, and they will give you a
few dots.
“Dear Sir:—In reply to your in
quiry will say that our county
adopted local taxation in the year
1905, to take effect January 1,
1906. Since then our schools have
doubled in number and more than
doubled in attendance. Our teach
ers salaries have gone up nearly 50
per cent, and we are enabled to
commund the best talent. We pay
salaries to all teachers. We have
a uniform scale for all schools and
the remotest country school gets as
good a salary as the suburban
school.
The local tax system gives gen
eral satisfaction, and I know of no
one influence who would turn his
hand to change back to the old
system. Very truly,
E. C. MERRY, County
School Superintendent
Fulton County.”

We wont sell cigarettes after July 13th. After
that in order to get your supply of cigarettes it will
be neccessary to leave Cairo to purchase them—This
of course means an incohvenience and time loser;
Why put yourself out? Smoke a pipe or cigar.
Medical Science tells us that the cigarette dulls your
intellect, dwarfs your body and impairs your health.
This is not hearsay, it has been proven and it is true.
A great many of us smoke cigarettes because they
are convenient and a short smoke. We are going to
have a supply of small cigars in stock ,to take the
place of them.
We will have a complete assortment of pipes,
smoking tobacco, cigars in our window for your in
spection. Let us fit you out in a new pipe and a can
of smoking tobacco and stop cigarettes. Break the
old habit and lets help the ladies put this over; they
are right.
