Whigham Department
Mr. M. Goldstein has moved
his family from Quincy to Whig
ham. They are now located in
the residence on Broad street
that was formerly occupied by
Mr. G. L. Bunch.
The terrible tragedy at Bain
bridge last Saturday was a sad
affair and very much regretted
in our town, as both of the two
young men were well known by
many in this section.
It is reported that of all the
firms that broke last year 80 per
cent, did not advertise, so our
business men had better well
consider the virtue of advertis
ing and take advantage of it.
The next move in Whigham
since the town has decided on
waterworks and electric lights
will be to get a telephone ex
change. That will perhaps be
put in within 90 or 120 days.
Mr. E. S. Perry, of Iron City,
was a visitor to our town last
week. We were very well im
pressed with Mr. Perry’s appear
ance, and no doubt but what he
would make a fine sheriff if
elected.
W. C. Bell is looking for a
carload of buggies from Barnes
ville every day. Don’t you need
a new buggy to ride in to pic
nics this spring? Bell will sell
you if you will give him half a
chance.
Mr. J. B. Anderson spent Sun
day in Ochlcckonee, returning
Monday. Mr. Anderson’s drug
business at Whigham i< rapidly
building up under the care and
management of Dr. Craig, of
Statesboro.
Mr. W. B. Yawn tells us that
he is a candidate for tax asses
sor. Mr. Yawn is a millman
near Whigham and there is no
doubt but that Mr. Yawn has a
large number of friends that will
vote for him.
The Methodist revival here
will probably begin the second
Sunday in this month. It is to
be hoped that our good people
may lay temporal affairs aside
for the time being and attend
the revival and try to get on a
more solid stand for eternity.
A flock of wild geese flew
over our town Saturday night
and the old weather prophets
tell us now that as the geese are
returning to the north we need
not fear the cold killing any
thing, so a flock of geese can do
other things besides save Rome.
Mr. W. M. Quinn had a sud
den attack last Saturday night.
The trouble was a spasmodic
stricture or closure of the larynx
which was probably caused by
inhaling guano dust in his guano
warehouse. We are glad to re
port that Mr. Quinn is alright
now. His trouble was very se
rious for awhile.
Little Jim, the oldest son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bell, died last
Saturday night in Whigham af
ter a lingering illness of over
two months. 1 he little boy had
pneumonia then later was com
plicated by an abscess of the
lung that resulted in his death,
The entire community offers
their heartfelt sympathy to the
bereaved parents.
Candidates are as polite as
ever.
Whigham people continue to
subscribe for the Messenger.
Mr. Ira Bell, of Cane Water,
was a visitor to our town Tues
day.
Mr. J. S. Frierson, of Sofky,
was seen on our streets last Mon
day.
Rev. Mr. Bluit, of Marshill
community, was on our streets
Tuesday.
Rev. M. M. Kinchen, of South
Cairo, was a visitor to our town
T uesday.
We are glad to announce that
Mrs. G. L. Bunch is slowly con
valescing.
Mr. H. A. Maxwell, of Cal
vary, was a visitor to our town
last Friday.
Mr. T. W. Lane, of Havana,
Fla., came up and spent Sunday
^ with his family.
Col. M. E. O’Neal was casting
smiles at the voters on our
streets Wednesday.
Mr. Charley Harrell, of Bain
bridge, was here taking orders
for soda fountains last Tuesday.
Mrs. D. O. Pearce has been
real sick for a number of days,
but we understand that she is
improving.
Anderson Drug Co. has just
opened their soda fount for the
season, so you can now call and
get a first-class drink.
Messrs. Bryant, Frierson and
Jordan, of Sofky, went to Savan
nah Thursday on business.
They will return about Sunday.
Bower is expecting a large
order of ice cream freezers in
soon. He intends for us to eat,
be merry and keep cool this
summer.
The Alpha Society elected
new officers last Friday night.
Miss Leslie Harrell was elected
president and Miss Ida Terrell
secretary.
Mr. Henry K. Clark, in South
Whigham, is nearing the com
pletion of his nice residence that
will add much to that side of
town when completed.
Miss Nellie Bulter returned
from Andrew’s Female College
Tuesday to spend a few days
with parents while recuperating
from a recent vaccination.
Misses Alice Wimberly and
Valda Kerr, of Bainbridge, but
at present teachers of the Swi
cord school, south of Whigham,
spent Sunday in our town.
Mr. T. B. Trulock, of Quincy,
is visiting homefolks In Whig
ham this week. Old Dick” al
ways finds a hearty welcome in
Whigham among his numerous
friends.
Every day we learn of new
encouragement that makes us
sure that Terrell and Logue will
be numbered with the success
ful candidates in the coming
election.
The Whigham High school is
overflowing with pupils and we
attribute it to the excellent fac
ulty they now have in charge of
the school. The school is doing
good work.
Announcements.
Decatur County.
FOB SOLICITOR.
To the Voters of Decatur County.
I desire to announce that 1 am a candidate
for the office of the Solicitor of the City Court
of Bainbridge, subject to the action of the
white Democratic Primary. I was born and
rearer in Decatur county, and have lived here
all my life, during the last eight years of
which I have been actively engaged In
the practice of law and feel that I could fill
the responsible position to the satisfaction of
the public. Those who know me know that I
am dilligent in business, and am always found
on the side of right and duty. The other can
didates have held this office. Mr. Gilpin held
it under tne Act creating the City Court of De
catur county, before the City Court of Bain
bridge was established in its stead, and Mr.
Bussell, the present incumbent has held the
position under the Act creating the City Court
of Bainbridge, his term of office of four years
in this position will expire shortly after the
general election of this year. This office, with
its duties, being one that will gseatly develop
a young man iu the practiue of law, and the
other two candidates haviug held the posi
tion, there could be no wrong in electing me
to the position and gratifying a laudible am
bitlon. and I therefore respectfully and earn
tstly ask the suffrage and support of all the
white citizens of this county.
M. B. O’Nxal.
FOB SOLICITOR CITY COURT.
I nesire to announce tnat I am a candidate
for re-election as solicitor o5 the City Court,
subject, of coursa„to the Democratic White
Primary. In the one term during Which I
have filled this position it has been my con
stant oim toodminister the same with justice
to all^and injustice to none. It has been my
endeavor to punish the guilty, and not to op
press the innocent. The experience gained in
the one term I haue served better fits me to
perform the duties than ever before. If elec
ted I shall discharge them faithfully, ann to
the best of my ability, i respectfully ask the
suffrage and support of the white citizens of
Decatur county.
ALBERT H. RUSSELL.
FOR JUDGE OF COURT.
I am a candidate for judge of the City court
of Bainbridge, subject to the Democratic
white primary. I respectfully solicit the suf
frage of the democratic voters of Decatur
county, pledging the people of the county that
if elected I shall enter upon the duties of the
position with a strong determination to dis
charge them faithfully, intelligently, impar
tially and conscientiously.
W. M. HARRELL.
The Alpha Society.

carried out on account of it be
ing election day.
The following officers were
elected: Miss Leslie Harrell,
President, Miss Dixie Trulock,
Vice-President, Miss Ida Ter
rell, Secretary and Miss Estelle

4,000 Seed Cane For Sale.
I have about 4,000 good aver
age length seed cane for sale.
If you want them call on or ad
dress.
Dr. M. M. McCord,
Whigham, Ga.
Whigham needs a hitching
ground for horses so that our
main streets may not become so
crowded with vehicles on Satur
days. Our town authorities
would do uo bad thing in pre
paring such a hitching ground
and forbid blockadeing the
streets.
A citizen from Bainbridge ws
heard to say on our streets last
week that Bainbridge would poll
a heavy vote this election for
Donaldson and Terrell. There
are other good candidates, but
it seems that they are going to
make a good selection, if the
above be true.
Mr. Marvin Herring came to
Whigham Friday and ran over
to Bainbridge and returned on
the noon train. We have learn
ed later that it probably was a
mistake about Mr. going
over to Bainbridge for a marriage
license. It seems that he had
other business.

Rev, G. P. Reviere preached
a very interesting sermon last
Sunday night on character build
ing. The divine said that we
are all builders either on rock or
sand and intreated every one of
his hearers to build on the solid
rock and not be hearers only,
but doers of the word.
