|H CHURCH FOR till
Our thrifty town is still pro- j
gressing. As the days go by, j
enterprises that contribute to;
the welfaie and prosperity of j
the community continue to
spring up.
The tent meeting on Bryan
street resulted in the organiza
tion ot a Congregational Metho
dist church of nine members
with Rev. J. J. Hurst as pastor.
These people have no desire
to antagonize or in any wise in
jure the churches already exist
ing, but they hope to co-operate
in true Christian spirit and to
accomplish some good that can
be done only through an organi
zation of this kind.
The pastor-elect has spent all
his life in this community and is
devout and brotherly man
with a clean and honorable rec
ord behind him. Mr. W. D.
Barber, one of the other leading
spirits in the movement, is a
man of zeal and industry and is
an untiring worker for any
cause that he espouses. The
other members of , the church
begin earnestly and hopefully.
The meeting was attended by
many of our citizens and was
generally enjoyed. The new
church starts with the sympa
thy and best wishes of our peo
ple. They hope to have a house
of worship in a few months.
The meeting which has just
closed was conducted by Rev.
Rolfe Hunt, . D. D., Editor of
The Watchman and founder of
the Atlanta Bible School. Sev
eral of our citizens presented
free-will offerings to help pay
for the property bought in At
lanta for Bible School purposes.
Quite a number have put in a
plea for Dr. Hunt’s return here
for a two week’s meeting some
time next year, and it is proba
ble he may do so.
Revs. T. J. Brunson, J. J.
Hurst, W. J. Hurst and J. C.
White assisted in the meeting,
and Rev. T. J. Brunson presided
in the organization of the new
church.
The Congregational Metho
dists are making considerable
progress throughout the South.
Only a few years ago Union
church, near here, was organ
ized with just three members;
now thev have nearly one hun
dred. Wheu a short time later
the Southwest Georgia District
Conference was organized, they
bad only one minister in the
district; now they have four.
This District, now comprising
several churches, mefets with
Harmony church, near Brinson
this week, A new house of
worship has been built there
which Dr. Hunt has been asked
to dedicate during this confer
ence session.
Messrs. Mauldin Bros, have a
change of advertisement in
day’s Messenger that will pay
the reader of the Messenger to
read as these gentlemen have
got the goods to sell and prices
that places the goods within the
reach of everybody. Be sure
and read what they have to say.
Dr. W. A. Walker was a
visitor to Thomasville one day
this week.

ment and Iron Fencing,
