Roddenbery arrived here on the noon train Saturday, as per expectations, for the purpose of addressing the people of our town and community in behalf of Hon. Alton B. Parker, tie was greeted by a large and at tentive crowd. Judge Rodden bery in his usual eloquent man ner introduced Mr. Griggs and for 45 minutes the statesman held the crowd spell-bound. He left on the 2 o’clock train for Boston where he was billed to speak at 3 p. m. On last Friday, Earnest Cope land, colored, who is charged with murder at Clayton, Ala., was captured by Messrs. W. P. ews and J W. Nicholson. landed him in the “boose,” and immediately wired the Sheriff that place, as to reward, etc. was found that for delivery of negro to the authorities at place there was $75 reward. land had a brother living here, and had been making headquarters for some although he showed himself time too many.
