company to be seen here is the
Eastern “A Chinese Honeymoon J > com
pany, including J, A. Kierman, Lillian
Reed, Charles Pripce, Stella Beardsley,
Kitty Baldwin, Fred Heck, Frances Gol
den; Frances Cole, Lue Clark and others
who have distinguished themselves on
the comic opera stage, including eight
stunning bridesmaids, and a chorus and
ballet of 100. The story of the book has
to do with a certain young Englishman.
Samuel Ptneapple by name, who having
married his typewriter, goes to China on
his honeymoon. His bride, having been
told by a reader of character from hand
writing that her husband is fond of flirt
ing, decides to take with her as a sort of
watch on the susceptible Pineapple, her
entire company as bridesmaids, eight in
number. The nephew of Samuel has ar
rived in Ylang-Ylang, and there has fajl
eu in love with a young maiden whom he
belies to be a singing oirl, but who in re
reaiity is the emperor’s daughter in dis
guise. The emperor has sent his lord
high admiral abroad in search of a wo
man who shall be empress, but has for
bidden the telling of the imperial suitor’s
rank, preferring and therefore to be ordering loved for the himself
alone, admi
ral to represent him as a paperhanger.
The admiral returns without having found
the bride to be, and he is in despair until
he encounters Mrs. Pineapple, who in a
moment of pique at what she continues to
play bride to the loving ruler. The em
peror is pleased with her, is photograph
ed in the a<’t of kissing her, and the be
trothal of these two also becomes a ne
cessity. The second act has to do
with the unraveling of these complica
tions, and albeit somewhat tedious, the
story in its entirety has more of value
than is found in the majority of the mu
sical comedies of the day. -The music is
tuneful and essentially popular, in so far
as its fitness for being whistled and ham
mered is concerned.
