The community was shocked on
nesday last to learn that John F.
had died suddenly at his home near
city. Mr. Howard had only been ill
i several days, and his death was
first intimation that his friends
j of his illness. There was no more
lar man in the entire county than
Howard, and his demise is a most
| timely and unfortunate loss. He
' five li ttle orphan children, their
having died some two years ago.
Howard was a man of frail health,
the attack of pneumonia was
brought on by a severe wetting he
[ ceived only about ten days ago. He
49 years of age, and was born and
j Thomas count}’, and was serving
second term as Tax Assessor, He
i an efficient and capable officer, and
his close attention to his duty had
rially increased the taxable values of
; county. He W’as a kindly and Christian
gentleman, loved and honored by
friends. He will be sadly missed, both
as a man and an officer. His five
! children are left alone in the world
cept for the protection of their uncle, Mr.
] George Howard, and the sympathy
| the whole county goes out to them in
their hour of sorrow and distress. May
the Good Father who watches over us all
care tenderly for the little orphans who
are left alone to struggle with many and
multiplied vicissitudes of life.
Is It Right?
Is it right that a property-owner
should lose $ 4.20 to let a dealer
make 50 cents? A dealer makes
50 cents more on fourteen gallons
of ready-for-use paint, at $ 1.50
per gallon, than our agent does on
eight gallons of L & M paint and
six gallons ot linseed oil, which
makes fourteen gallons of the best,
paint in the world, at $1 20 per
gallon ; the property-owner loses
iust $4 20 . Is it right?
It only requires 4 gallons of L
& M and 8 gallons linseed oil to
paint a moderate sized house.
