WOMAN’S CLUB TO MEET
TODAY.—
The regular meeting of the Cairo
Woman’s Club will be held at the club
house today, -Friday afternoon, April
7th, at 3 o’clock.
The program will be sponsored by
the department of public welfare with
Mrs. W. S. Smith as chairman. The
subject for the afternoon will be
“Healing Waters of the South.”
Hon. E. E. Boone, Jr., manager of
Warm Springs Foundation, Warm
Springs, will be the guest of the club
and make the address of the hour.
Other talks 'will be given by Mrs.
W. R. Eskew, whose subject will be
“Hot Springs, Ark.,” and Mrs. Howard
Thrower, who will talk on “Sealy
Springs, Cottonwood, Ala.”
The Woman’s Club Chorus will sing
“America, the Beautiful.”

Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Tyson were ex
pected to return home late Thursday
or today, Friday, from a ten-day visit
with Dr. and Mrs. L. S. Rentz, in
Miami.

Mayor and Mrs. W. J. Powell, of
Thomasville, spent Sunday here with:
the former’s mother, Mrs. Kedar
Powell, who has been ill, but who is
now somewhat improved.

expected Sunday to spend a week here
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
Mauldin, and other relatives and
friends.

Mrs. Kenneth -F. Leddick, and young

Atlanta, after spending a week here
with relatives and friends. Mir. Led
dick came here and they accompanied
him home.

Mr. J. Lloyd Griffin, of Miami, a
former resident of Cairo, spent Sun
day and Monday visiting here. He ac
companied his son, Mr. Claude Griffin,
who came here to accompany his fam
ily to Miami tk) make their home.

Mrs. R. E. Wilson, and daughters,
Misses Virginia and -Florence Wilson,
of Homerville, G'a., formerly of Cairo,
spent a part of last week here with
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Southall, and other
relatives and friends.

Miss Roberta Richter, a student at
Converse College, at Spartanburg, S.
C., came last Friday to spend the
spring holidays here bvith her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Richter, She
plans to return to Spartanburg on
Sunday.
MRS. SIMMONS, A FORMER
RESIDENT, DIES.
The many friends here of Mrs. Mar
vin T. Simmons, of Donalsonville, a
farmer resdent of Cairo, were grieved
to learn of her death in the Frazier
Ellis hospital, in Dothan, Ala., early
Thursday morning. She was taken to
the hospital earlier this week for an
operation. Mr. Simmons is employed
by the A. C. L. railroad at Donalson
ville and formerly served the railroad
here.
-Friends here were advised that fu
neral and interment will be in Ozark,
Ala., at 2 p. m., today, Friday.

Mr. Wendell Ulm returned to his
home here a f«/w days ago after com
pleting his course of study at the
Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.

Miss Kathryn Brown returned home
Tuesday night from Lexington, Ky.,
where she underwent treatment by
specialists for several weeks, Her
condition is considerably improved and
she expects to be out again soon. Her
neice, Mrs. Fred P. Meyer, of Springs
vale, Ga., came here with her from
Lexington and returned to Spring
vale Wednesday.

Mrs. Joe Poulk, whose condition has
been very serious for the past few
weeks, Was transferred from the
AreKbold Hospital, ai .ThoftiasVille, to
the Cairo Hospital, last Sunday, and
thence to her home here Tuesday. Her
condition remains critical although
hope is expressed that she will soon
begin to show substantial improve
ment.

Messrs. T. W. and Arthur Wynn, of
Jacksonville, twmeriy of this county,
were called here last Week-end be
cause of the serious illness of their
father, Mr. J. G, Wynn, whose condi
tion is little improved. They returned
to Jacksonville, however, after spend
ing the week-end here. The elder Mr.
Wynn is aLso the father of Mr. John
Allen Wynn, a well-known Grady
countian.
