operate a saw-mill for W. M. Tyson
Lumber Co., Inc., of Cairo, for four
teen months, or lnoger. His wife will
join him there in a week or two.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Campbell, and
two children, of Indianapolis, Ind., are
expected to arrive here Sunday to re
main until Friday as the guests of
Mr. and Mrs. John Wight, and the
family. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs.
Wight are sisters.

IMiss Bessie Miller, rural missionary
worker for the South Georgia Meth
odist Conference, Miss Jane Walker,
and Billy V’ Landing-ham, spent Wed
nesday in Swainsboro, where they at
tended a conference-wide meeting at
which preliminary plans were made
for the “Youth Caravan” movement
next summer.

Mr. C. J. (Pappy) Stephens, of
Adel, formerly of Cairo, spent the
first part of this week here with old
friends. Mr. Stephens resided in
Cairo for a number of years while
he was engaged as a locomotive en
gineer for the old Pelham & Havana
raihoad, which served Cairo and Hav
ana, and intermediate points.
Mrs. F. C. Brookins, and daughter,
Miss Daisy Dell, of Dothan, have
been spending several days here with
the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
T. M. Watkins, and brother, Mr. F.
N. Watkins, having been called here
because of her father’s illness. The
many friends of the family will be
interested to know that his condition
is somewhat improved.

Mr. Arthur Weathers, who spent
a part of last week here with his
parents, Postmaster and Mrs. J. S.
Weathers, left the first of this week

Ga., with the Rational Youth Admin
istration. He has just finished at
Emory University, Atlanta, his work
for a degree which he is to receive
in June.

Mr. and Mrs. Vester Stokes spent
the first part of this week in Alma,
Ga., where Mr. Stoke* is to be pro
prietor of the Ford sales and service
agency. They returned here Tuesday
to spend a few days befoie locating
in Alma. Mr. Stokes recently retired
from the tire and service station bus
iness here. The good wishes of their
many friends here follow them to
their new home.

Mr. and Mrs. Beunah Harrell, of
West Palm Beach, Fla., have been
been visiting relatives here and in
Whigham for several days.
Miss Rebecca Darsey, one of the
nurses at the Cairo Hospital, under
went an appendectomy Monday. She
is convalescing satisfactorily.

nell spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
0. P. Connell, in Cottonwood., Ala.

Freddie Lou Purcell, left Wednesday
to spend a few days in Atlanta with
relatives.

Mr. J. M. Poulk has improved suf
ficiently from a recent operation at
the Phoeibe Putney Hospital, in Al
bany, to return to his home here.
Hope is expressed that he will regain
normal health in due time.

Mrs. E. Jack Smith, and daughter,
Miss Jackie Smith, and Miss .Frances
Campbell, of Atlanta, spent last week
end as the guests of Mrs. Sarah
Wight, here, and friends in Thomas
ville.
Mr. Archie McNeill returned to
Charlotte, N. C., Tuesday to resume
his studies at Davidson College after
spending the spring holidays with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Mc
Neill.

IMirs. Lula Reese left Thursday for
her home in Coleman, Fla., after
spending about a week here as the
guest of her nephew, Mr. William Ol
iver, the family, and other relatives
and friends. She came from Monte
zuma, where she visited relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Whitfield, Jr.,
and Mr. Cory Lee, of Whitfield
Paulk Motor Co., here attended a
meeting of Dodge-Plymouth dealers
in Jacksonvile Thursday. Mr. and
Mrs. Whitfield continued to Miami to
spend a few days before returning
home.

Mrs. E. W. Barwick was called to
Quitman Tuesday because of the ser
ious illness of her father, Mr. J. S.
Harrell. His condition is still serious
and she remains there. Hope is ex
pressed that he will be restored to
normal health in due time.

Mr. Floyd McKnight, who has been
an employee of Roddenbery Hardware
Co., here, for some time, has trans
ferred to the Tifton store of this con
cern, at least temporarily. His fam
ily will remain here for the present.
He is being succeeded at the Cairo
store tomorrow by Mr-. W. W. Wads
worth, who has been connected with
the Tifton store.
