Mary Bell Richter
Feted At Fish Fry
Last Saturday
Mr. and Mrs. Ashton Richter
entertained with a fish fry last
Saturday night in honor of their

the past two years. The delicious
fish was served on the back lawn
at the home of Mrs. Frank Rich
ter.
Guests from Cairo included
Peter and Anna Schinkel, Wessie
Connell, Kenneth Thompson, Bill
Lashlev, John and Betty Powell,
Walter and Doris Dodson, Bill
and Bety Stewart, Cliff Owsley,
Mack and Madge Chastain,
Evelyn Pope, and Mrs. Roger
Fields (Martha Sanders). Martha
entertained the group with ac
cordian music.
Guests from Panama City in¬
cluded Marie Everitt, Captain and
Mrs. Hugh Collem and Captain
and Mrs. Robert O’Riley.
Peyton Richter, who has just
returned from a visit to New

Farmers Advised To
Watch Show Cattle
For New Diseases
With hundreds of fairs now un¬
der way in the United States,
farmers were advised today to
make sure that animals do not
bring disease hazards home with
their blue ribbons.
“No matter what stringent san¬
itary measures have been taken
any animal shown where large
groups of other animals have been
assembled should be handled as
if it has been exposed to infec¬
tion.” warns a bulletin from the
American Foundation for Animal
Health.
A minimum quarantine period
of 30 days was recommended for
all animals after fair exhibition,

out that while an animal may ap
pear perfectly healthy, it can
harboring deadly disease germs
contracted from an equally heal
thy-looking animal at a fair, a
show, or livestock sale.
Also recommended was a check
up by a veterinarian of all live
stock returning from fairs. Such
a procdure, the Foundation said,
has a two-fold purpose if the ani
mal is infected, First, special prep
cautions can be taken to see that
the disease does not spread to oth
er animals in the herd. Second,
treatment to save the animal’s
j value can be instituted promptly.

FIVE
AFFECT OF SODA
Although soda gives fresh vege¬
tables a brighter green color, it
destroys much of the vitamin
content and may soften them so
much that they become mushy.
It should not be used in cooking
