THE CAIRO MESSENGER. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1949
1 MISS WHEELER WEDS
MR. HICKS SUNDAY.—
Miss Amanda Wheeler, daught¬
er of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wheeler,
became the bride of Mr. Joseph
L. Hicks, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. L. Hicks, of Americus, at a
morning ceremony at 9 o’clock
Sunday at the Capel Baptist
Church.
The Rev. J. G. Garrison, of
Ochlocknee, read the double-ring
ceremony in the presence of a
large group of relatives
,
friends.
A solid green background for
cathedral candles in floor candel¬
abra and a large basket of white
gladioli and chrysanthemums was
formed with pines, southern
smilax and palms.
Mrs. Lola Cifton, of Leslie, in¬
structor in the school in Ochlock¬
nee played the nuptial music.

HELD IN SHOOTING: Brady,
Texas.—Mrs. Sandra Peterson,
’ twice-married hicth-hiker, (above)
I is in jail here, charged with the
i shooting last August of Louis
j Patterson, Brady real estate man.
! Sandra, originally from Somer
j jville, arrested, Mass., which was only 17 when law
under Texas
| would class her as a juvenile and
| free her from prosecution.
I Mr. Glenn Pelham saing “I Love
lYou Truly”, “Because” and “Pray
J er Perfect”.
The candles were lighted by
two neices of the bride, Miss
Sarah Tyson, of Valdosta, and
Miss Mary Ponder; they wore
blue taffeta dresses with purple
iris corsages.
Messrs. Alvin Wheeler and
James Wheeler, brothers of the
bride, were the ushers.
The bride’s only attendant, the
maid of honor, Miss Wynell Wat¬
kins, of Thomaston, entered alone;
she wore a blue chaise crepe with
a winter white felt and a corsage
of white carnations.
The bride entered on the arm
of her brother, Mr. Irvin Wheeler,
who gave her in marriage; they
were met at the altar by the
groom and his best man, Dr.
Charles Dixon, of Cuthbert.
For her wedding the bride chose
a model in champagne white de¬
signed with a rolled collar, long
sleeves and crushed sash closing
with buttons in the back; her
hat of a matching shade was
covered with a vail of shoulder
length. She carried a prayer
book topped with an orchid and
showered with orange blossoms.
Mrs. Wheeler, the bride’s moth¬
er, wore navy blue with black
accessories and a corsage of white
carnations.
The groom’s mother, Mrs.
Hicks, was modeled in black;
white carnations formed her
corsage.
Reception
The bride’s parents entertained
at a reception at their home fol¬
lowing the ceremony.
The white and green motif was
used in the dining-room where
the table was centered with the
conventional three-tiered cake
toped with a miniature bride and
groom and flanked by white can¬
dles in crystal holders. Coffee
was served with the cake. In
other rooms of the home thrown
open to the guests the decorations
were in the Christmas colors.
After visiting with their guests
for a short while the young cou¬
ple left for a wedding trip af¬
ter which they will make their
home in Americus where he is
employed with the Interstate Life
and Accident Insurance Company.
For traveling the bride wore a
suit in dusty rose gabardine with
a black hat, black accessories and
white gloves; the orchid from the
prayer-book formed her corsage.
