Last Monday
On Monday afternoon a G. E. A.
Cabinet meeting of District of
ficers, Local Unit Presidents, Pub
lic Relations chairmen, and
System Superintendents was held
in the Camilla High School audi
torium for the purpose of discus
sing points of mutual interest.

presided, Miss Faith Porch, as
sistant G. E. A. field director,
acted as secretary. J. Gorhari
Garrison, State G. E. A. Vice
President and E. V. Whelchel, G.
E. A. trustee discussed school leg
islation passed by the recent ad
journed session of the legislature.
Mr. Thomas Burson, editor of
the Camilla Eenterprise, chair
man of the Second District Citi
zens Committee of Georgia, gave
brief report from the State Com
mittee and outlined plans for
district and County organizations
and Activities. Mr. Burson
brought out the fact that the
Georgia Citizens Committee is a
non-professional, non-profit or
ganization composed entirely of
lay people and not in any way
connected with teachers or the
Georgia Education Association.

Mr. Virgil A. Whitle died at his
home in Sanford, Fla., at noon
Sunday, Feb. 19, following a short
illness.
The funeral service was held
at the Chapel of Forsyth-Bearden
Funeral Home here at 11 o'clock
Wednesday morning with the
Rev. G. N. Rainey in charge. In
terment was in the Cairo ceme
tery.
The pallbearers were Lannis
Bobby Gandy, Max
Jesse Spence, John Glov
er, Jr., and Kelley Harrison.
The deceased was born in
Saluda County, South Carolina,
on June 24, 1917, the son of Luth
er A. and Wilma Adams Whittle, j j
About twenty years of his life
was spent former in this county. Miss Lois His Cone, wife j i

Mr. Whittle was a member of •
the Hand Memorial Methodist ■
Church, of Pelham. He was held
in high esteem by many friends; j

his life was spent in the service

half years of that time in the
Pacific.
