good living for their families—
much better, some of them, than
others who received an education.
This being the case is a greater
reason that they should have
these sc-lf helps that can be ro
quickly and easily acquired. It
has been demonstrated t.hat the
ordinary -man or woman can be
taught to lead and write and un¬
derstand simple operations in
numbers in the short period of
three or four weeks work of an
hour or two a day. I believe that
any man or woman who is con¬
vinced that a grown person may
easily learn, in so short a time,
to read and write, and what a
help in business and what a pleas¬
ure this knowledge will give, will
gladly undertake to learn.' Six
counties in Georgia have a’ready
taken up this labor of love and
are now giving systematic in¬
struction to those within their
boundaries who are unable to
read »nd write. Let us fall in line.
Mr. Brittain has just gotten out
a lesson book in pamphlet form,
which is prepared for this class
of work, as the mature man and
woman cannot be slidcd best by
the primer method suited to small
children. The lessons in reading
are selections from the Bible and
short studies on o'her subjects
suited to mature minds. The les¬
sons in writing •O’ and arithmetic v
have this in view also. This book

Tens of thousands of farmers as well as
town and city folks cut down their store
bills onc-half last year and saved money
in rpite of generally short crops and re¬
duced wages.
Absolutely millions of dollars were
saved and countless families lived better
than ever before in the face of the col tan
crisis and general business depression.
How were these burdensome store bills
cut down? By* the real money-saving
power cf good home gardens, rightly i
planted and kept planted and tended

Hastings 1916 Seed Catalogue tells how
to cut store bills down; tells about gar¬
