Story of Our Club Work
By Sara Crawford
Last year 1 weut to school in Paris,
Ky. When I came home in the summer
I found a very pleasant surprise await¬
ing me A Girl’6 Canning Clnh
Ot't 1 f' fti’ffo.'*-—i ...iu oi course I was
very anxious to join.
I joined the club at the first cooking
lesson. It was very interestin. We
cooked biscuit and corn meal mutfiins.
Some tables made biscuits and others
muffins. Our table made muf¬
fins, and they were a credit to our ta
Dle as we always have good success at
we cook.
We made our apions, caps atd hold
next. Alter much ripping to¬
gether with instructions from Miss
Holden I got my apron finished. My
nolder and cap was not as hard to make
as the apron. They were not easy lor
me to make, because I had never had
any sewing oefore.
After our uniforms were finished we
made our towels. Most of the girl* put
.neir initials, but some a design
such as a cuu anu saucer, or most any¬
thing that appealed to tne girl auu
would loos wen on tne towel.
At one cooking lesson we cooked JSos
r/,n Rrown Bread which was very deli¬
cious. 1 canned mj tomatoes which
were very successful.
The end of the year is approaching
«i“n we shall compleie the first year oi
our very inieiuo.m^ cluo worn. I ain
sure next year's work will be as inter¬
esting as this one has bien.
it nas Deen a pleasure to be in the
club and i nave tnorougmy enjoyed it.

The next thing was to find a
to make the garden.
Papa suggested a well drained
.dose upland soil
I started cutting sprouts off it.
In the meantime I had planted
seeds in a hotbed and tfu
were up nicely, but it rasa
and rained, and rained so tha*
else could be done toward
garden, my plants were grow
fine.
So one day it quit raining and
prepared the soil and fertilized
with home mixed fertilizer.
That same afternoon, I set out
plants.
Two days afterward I went to
how they were doing. I found
four plants had died, so I
those with new plants.
I worked my plants with a hoe,
my brother plowed them three
I did not prune them as th*

in working them.
Miss Winnie Holden was ap

They ripened quickly after they
started. I had so many I
not use them all. I made
the soup mixture, ehiia sauce
green pickles I needed and
used all she noedea. I

We learned to cook many little
and substantial foods, via;
Biscuits, pies,cookies and disserts.
We also learned many things
sewing and embroidering
Sometimes on club days we
would go to the place ot meeting
and if Miss Winnie hadn’t come
we would go down the road to
meet her in order ta get a little
spin back to the club meeting in
“Holder” her Ford.
We always have the grandest
time at the club meetings- Hur¬
