It to currently reported that Thomas McNair, who killed a man named Hardy at Worthville last winter, and who has since that time been a fugitive from justice, was arrested last week near Macon and lodged in jail. If the report bo true, (and we hope it is) the gay and festive Me. will soon re tire to the shade* of prison life, where he can repent at leisure the murderous deed which has made him an outlaw, and make peace with his conscience on his own terms. Wr leain that Wm. Parr, the man who shot and killed Benjamin W iggins several days ago, gave himself into the custody of the officer* for an investigation. A large Dumber of the citiEena in that part of the county met at Peacbstone Sboals on last Tuesday, where it was announced a court of no disposition on the part of any one to prosecute the matter, and the court being satisfhd that there w.s not sufficient evi dence to authorise them to convict the de fendant, he was discharged from cut ody. Our first, infermatlop was to the effect that he would probably rpcoe.r. We learned subsequently. however, that hia wounds were of a more character than we di-scrilwd, from the *ff-cts of which he died as above stated. Dr Bank*, of Griffin, assisted Dr. Preble* in amputating the wounded limb. We should have men timed this fnot lost week, but inadvertently omitted it. The deceased wo* highly es teemed in the community in which he lived, and his sad d- atb is deeply deplored by all. Our community wns shocked lasi week by the sad announcement of the death of Ben nie Spearman, eldest son of Mrs R. T. Harper, which occurred at Dawsoo, On , on the 17*h inst, of typhoid fever. Gifted, honorable and high-toned, be was possessed of nil the elements ol true manhood, and had lie lived, would have exemplified these traits in a career as bright ts it would hnve been useful. Though young, he had many friends among those of older growth, who fonnd much to admire in his genial nntnre and cultured manner, and his death will be uni versally icgictti-d. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, and es pecially to the sorrowing, grief-stricken mother, and pray that the same Hand which smote will carry balm to their wound*d hearts.
