Williams left for Macon last Tuesday night, to be prescut at the re union of Cook’s Brigade, which took place on Wednesday, the 29'b inst. He was one of its most gallant members, and his old comtades greeted him with a cordiality that plsinly attested bis popularity, and tbe high esteem in which be is yet held by the Surviving members ol that distinguished corps. A -worthy Butts county larmnr, having beard of the fancy prices paid by Covington merchants fot cotton, determined to try that market with a sample bale. He accordingly selected <me of his best bales, put it in charge of a trusty negro, and started it to Covington one day last week. Arriving there, it was classed as low middling, and sold for 9% cents, that being the highest price offered, Io addition to this, tbe buyer knocked ofl 35 pounds for water, though the farmer solemnly affirms that the cotton was ginned dry. and was only exposed to the weather during trip. The same cotton was selling at Hampton on that day at 10%. The Butts county farmer thinks be knows where to go in future. In pursuance of an act passed by tbe last Legislature, “creating a Board of Commis sioners for the county of Henry, and for other purposes," an election will be held on Tuesday next for five Commissioners, to be selected by ballot, whose term of office shall be two (or four) years. The polls will be opened at tbe uaua! voting precincts, and the same hours observed as to opetiirig and closing ae in other elections. So far, we have heard of seveu only who have been suggested for the office, viz : J. W. Roan tree. W. A. Speer, R. A. Henderson, J. A. O. Wyan, A. J. Dickson, C. T Zicbry and John Grant. Of these, we learn that Messrs. Grant and Zacbry have declined to serve, which leaves j«*t enough for a full ticket of all tbe names that have been men-, tioned, and we bate no doubt they will be elected without opposition. Remember, tbe election takes place next Tuesday. Among the survivors of Cook’s Brigade, which did such vaiiant service in ihe late war, tbe following members are honored citizens of our county, and the mere mention ef Ibeir uames will call to mind tbe recollec each one bore himself with that valor for which this gallant corps was evi r distil) gti'shed : W. 11. The company to which they belonged entered the service in 1562. with neui one hundred men, and of this number only seventeen returned. Dr. W. 11. Peebles was elicted Captain of the company, but wub sulisi quently promoted to the rank of Colonel, lor gallantry on tbe field, and placed in command ot the 44th Georgia He served with distinction until tlie close of the war, and if the confl ct hud lasted a few months longer lie would huve been made a Brigadier-General. We shall ever delight to hooor these men tor their heroic services in the past, and in doing so only accord to them that meed of praise which the truly biave deserve. Resoiutiuus. It will be apparent to any one, who will examine a Solid Gold Watch, that aside from the necessary thickness for engraving and polishing, a large proportion of the precious metal used, is needed only to stiffen and hold the engraved portions in place, and supply the necessary solidity and strength. The surplus gold is actually needless so far as n*pity und beauty are concerned In James boss' patent gold WATCH CASKS, this waste of precious metal is overcome, and the same solidity arid strength produced at from one-third to one half of tbe usual cost of solid cases. This process is of the most simple nature, ns fol lows : a plate of nickle composition metal, especially adapted to the purpose, has two plates of solid gold soldered one on each side. The three are then passed between polished steel rollers, and the result h a strip of heavy plated composition, from which the cases, backs, centres, b«z ds, etc., are cut and shaped by suituble dies and formers. The gild in these cases is sufficiently thick to admit of all kind* of chasing, engraving and enamelling; tbe engraved cases have h<*en carried until worn perfectly smooth by time and use without removing the gold. THIS IS THE ONLY CASE MADE WITH TWO PLATES OF SOLID GOLD AND WARRANTED BY SPECIAL CERTIFICATE. For sale by all Jewelers. Ask for Illus trated Catalogue, m.d to »ee warrant. ADMINISTRAI OR'S SALE.
