Our colored friends have organiz'd a tem

John Brown Lodge, I O. of G. T., and aie
■nuking considerable progress in the good
work. At their last meeting a committee
was sp ointed to solicit aid from the friends

gra..d temperance rally, to lie held at this
place on the 26<h inst. The Lodges at
Griffm, McDonough, Orchard Hill and other
places will be invited to participate, and we
have no doubt they will succeed in getting
up a very creditable “boom.” We do not
much funcy the name they have adopted, but
as they are engaged in a good work, guess
we will have to excuse them.

The announcement on last Thursday
morning of the death of Judge Humphrey
Tomlinson, of Ibis place, cast a gloom and
sadness over our entire community. He was
a citizen who was universally respected for
his uprightness and sterling integrity of
character, and his death was a lamentable
loss to our town. With no enemies and
many friends, he lived a life which was well
worthy of imitation, and the most fitting
tribute that could be passed u|>on his mem
ory is “a good man has gone.”
Rev R YV. Rogers, the iffioient pastor

process is of the most simple nature, as fol

polished steel rollers, and ihe result is a strip
of heavy plated composition, from which the
eases, backs, centres, b< zels, etc., are cut and
shaped by suitable dies and former*. The
gold in these cases is sufficiently thick to
