The Commissioners of Webster county
having levied a higher tax than the grand
jury bad recommended, a number of the
property owners applied for an injunction.
But Juilge Crisp refused to grant it on the
ground tlat the authority to lax for county
purposes is with the Commissioners, not the
grand jury. —Augusta Chronicle.

Beooars. (?) —The following is from the
Courier Journal, and it is true. If let alone
the colored people of Georgia would be
Impp". They are all, or those who will,
making a good living, find plenty to do, and
are learning to behave themselves. If the
busy-bodies from the North would let them
alone they would nil bo happy ; but ever
and anon some adventurer comes along and
induces a lot of them to joio in the exoilu .
R ad :
Those poor, persecuted, hunted, lacerated,
perforated, scourged, flayed, houseless anil
homeless negroes in Georgia own over $5.-
000.000 worth ol property, including 341,-
139 acres of land. The Indiana republican
committee is trying to get these poor people
to come to Indiana and live od ten cents a
day and the kitchen sweepings.
At the Yorktown celebration a ‘‘blursted
Hinglishman,’’after surveying the situation
ami surroundings, said : “'I can well un
derstand now why Lord Cornwallis surren
dered Yorktown. II I owued such a place
I would give it up myself.”
A Boston preacher said : “The little
good anv of us can do must be done with
our hearts thumping against the hearts of
our fellow-men.” And every young woman
in church looked at every other woman and
smiled approvingly.
An Ohio editor was rendered insane while
going home at night by hearing the following
come In ra a dark porch on a shady street :
• Oh, John, I wonder if that moustache feels
ns good on your lips as it did on mine ?”
Jotiu’s answer he did not wait to hear.
