What to pay cotton pickers is a
question just now agitated by most far
mers, in view of the low price of the
staple. The prospect is that 30 to 3o
cents will be the best rates in this sec
tion.
Mr. .John Bryans returned last week
from a trip to Henrietta, Texas, where
be went on a visit to bis brother, Mr.
C. S. Bryans. He was very much
pleased with the Lone Star State, and
reports a pleasant trip.
Mr. Doc Turner went over to (he
| big rally at Conyers last Saturday, and
reports a glorious time. He says the
crowd was immense, the speeches
grand, and everybody went away hap
py and full of genuine old democracy.
Mr. .lien Mitchell a young man
about 22 years old, died near Mt. Car
mel last Tuesday morning, after two
weeks sickness with fever. Mr. Mitch
ell was a worthy young man, and many
friends regret his untimely departure.
Col. Reagan went over to Hampton
Tuesday evening to be present at the
meeting of the democratic club. 11c
was “nearly drowned” in the hardest
rain of the season, and had to buy new
clothes from head to foot, but rejiorts a
line meeting and a good time Their
; club now numbers one hundred and
thirty, which still gives Hampton the

Death of an Aged Lady.
Hl rß . McMullen, the aged moth
er of Mr. Miles Smith, died at the res
idence of her son-in-law, Mr. T. H.
Baird, near Ola, last Friday. Mrs.
McMullen was a good lady, and was a
member of the Baptist church for a
number of years. She leaves several
grown children and a number of rela
tives to mourn her loss, besides num
erous friends who extend sympathy to )
the bereaved ones.
Her luueral was preached by Rev.
T. J. Bledsoe at the Baptist church
Saturday evening, after which her re
mains were laid to rest in tho McDon
ough cemetery.
