John Sibley, the able third party speaker of Cobh county, has noti fied the committee that he will he on band next Tuesday. We were pleased to meet Dr. Thur mond, of Hampton, upon the streets of McDonough Monday. The doctor is an intelligent gentleman and one of the prominent physicians of our sister city. j An interesting meeting was closed at Timherridge church last week by the pastor. Rev. M. F. Duncan. Five new members were added to she church, while the entire membership were edi fied and benefited. Judge N ison has received infoima lion from the superintendent, that Mrs. Elizabeth Newhv, who was s.-nt to the asylum from Henrv county, is declining and her recovery doubtful. As the Ordinary is requested to notify her rel atives, and he has no means of rachiug them, this publication is made. Next Tuesday is the day! All Henry county will he here next Tuesday can you afford to Miss it ? Miss Annie Etheridge is in the city for a two weeks visit, to the delight of her; many friends. Miss Lucy Zachry returned last Wednesday to her home in Atlanta, af ter spending several weeks with her cousin, Miss Thornton Zachry. The big joint debate will be held at the big spring next 'Tuesday. Plenty of cool water and cool shade—let every body come out. Hon. John Sibley, of Cobh county, lias agreed to be here next Tuesday and speak tor the third party. Many other distinguished speakers will he present. Bring your wives along next Tues day with your well filled baskets, and let everybody be prepared for a day of enjoyment and general good humor. Messrs. Will Harper and Lem Car michael attended Mt. Zion camp meet ing in Spalding county last Sabbath. Ask them about the livery stable horse stolen from them. Let everybody bring full baskets next Tuesday. We have been blessed with a good bread crop this year, and it will do our people good to get to gether and spend a day socially. Take your wife and children to the big speaking next 'Tuesday, aud if you are a young man without wife and chil dren, get a sweetheart and take her. Iu other words, let ALL the ladies, young aud old, be there. The ladies are specially requested to be present next Tuesday. There will be a tine hand of music, and thus with the fair ladies of our county, aud fine music to add to their charms, every body will he enchauted. Laing left last Friday' for Forsyth, where she will visit friends before returning home in Dawson. Mrs. Laing was delighted with Me Douough’s salubrious climate and con templates making this her summer home. The people of Henry county are in telligent, and it will do us all good to meet together, swap opinions, and what ever is right will be done. We are one people, and our interests are in common. “Behold how pleasant it is for breth ren to dwell together in unity.” Uncle Hiram Lester, whose name iu its wonderful veneration heads the list of the McDonough Democratic clui), was horn in 17fi7, and lias been a Dem ocrat ever since. Verily, we can now lav just claim to the banner district of the county, or the State—yea, even of the Union. Hare’s to Locust'Grove, Stockbridge, Flippeti and McMullen's. All have fallen in line with booming democrat ic clubs during the past week—so, 52, 42 and 88. respectively—and each place has a number yet to follow. Verilv, old Henry county democracy will sweep the deck clean. What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and then has dyspepsia so had that he can’t enjoy any of the good things it, contains ? Ordinary Nelson has received enquiry from the executive department as to how many widows in this enuuty will claim pensions who have not heretofore applied ; also, how many sent claims too late for 1892 aud will renew them for 1893. Those interes ted are requested to inform the Ordinary at once, iu order that he may enable the next legislature to provide for them. The last grand jury directecd the commissioners to have public roads well worked by the < >ctober term of court, and we suggest to the overseer of McDonough district that now is a good time to have tlnj work done while it is leisure season, and everything is favora ble. Hampton District Democratic Club met in special session by order of the President, for the purpose of arranging the trip to McDonough to the public speaking on first Tuesday Sept. C> The names present pledged to go. Eight wagons were offered free gratis to car ry those who have no conveyance. It was decidi-d to get badges for the en tire crowd. It was moved and second ed that we procure a band to accompa ny us, and decided that a collection be taken for the purpose of paying for it. $20,00 was raised at once and a com mitteed appointed to w. ite and procure it. The committee was also instructed to collect balance mon ey needed. Committee as follows : R. C. Adams, W. M. Harris, E. C < lurry, -I. T. Pit-Ids, C. W. Fields and .1. M. Nipper. A proposition from E. ,1. Reagan and others, made by 11. C. Alexander, was made to the body that we procure a baud and they would pay for same. The proposition was accept ed. Si ck KitmixiK, Ga., Aug. 27th 181)2. Pursuant to a call, the Democrats of this district, met for the purpose of or gucizing the Stock bridge District Dem ocratic club. The meeting was called to order by \V. W. Ward. K. A. Flake was then put in nomination for permanent presi dent of the club and his election made unanimous. VV. J. Crabbe was elected permanent secretary and J. P. Johnson and W. U. Perry were elected vice presidents. The sad news of the drowning of Mr Am Fields, in South Georgia, was received here last Tuesday, lie had been a telegraph operator at a town known as Jenkins, for some time past, and last Sunday attempted to swim the Alapaha river, with the abovo awful re sult. The sad accident occurred by his being caught in a suck-hole, and the body was not recovered until just be fore dinner Wednesday. Deceased was a sou of the late Jim Fields, of the Mt. Carmel settlement. He wss twenty two or three years old, an excellent young man, and his aged mother and his sisters have the sincere sympathy of their friends in their great bereavement.
