air. Cleveland’s Cabinet.
Mr. Lincoln had an embarrassment
of choice for Cabinet Ministers in tlie
pristine days of the Republican party,
and he easily and magnanimously se
lected for the most important posts his
rivals for the Presidential nomination.
But there was no such choice for Mr.
Cleveland, who had no serious contest
ant for the nomination at Chicago ex
cept Senator Hill, who prefers the po
sition he now occupies to a seat in the
Cabinet.
Since 18G1 a decided change lias ta
ken place in the opinions of many men
in regard to the value of a Cabinet post.
Few Senators, unless impelled by a
strong sense of duty, as in the case of
Mr, Carlisle, are willing to give up
their seats in the Senate for a place in
the President's Cabinet, with its severe
labors, small compensation, and the
possible necessity of resigning in the
event of disagreement with the Presi
dent on an important question of policy.
There are, besides, many prizes in pri
vate business which men of first rate
ability like Mr. Whitney prefer to the
honor of promotion to the head of a
department at Washington. When
times change, the estimation of things
frequently changes with them; and
this is true of Cabinet offices as well as
other things.
At Keitt.
Died, on January i 9th, 1893, after
a short illness of pneumonia, little
Dimmock Morris, aged 22 months and
one day.
How sad the loss of a darling baby,
and who but the God who comforteth
those that are cast down is able to pour
the oil of consolation into the heart of
the bereaved mother? Yet, we trust
that she may take comfort in the
thought that it is the hand of the lov
ing Father that has dealt this blow to
her fondest hopes, and that lie is often
most kind when He seems severe. Is
it not upon the jewels that Christ es
pecially esteems, and means to make
most resplendent, that he hath his tools
the ofteuest. liest assured, dear friend,
that this affliction is sent only to polish
prepare and fit you more perfectly to
occupy that niche God has appointed
for you in his spiritual temple. It is
said that all sorrow ought to be borne
sickness ; and will not your heart go
forth in longings unutterable after the
beauties and glories of the upper para
dise —your Fatherland—now that little
Dimmock mingles his sweet voice in
the heavenly songs, and one lamb from
your flock is safely folded there ; for
Jesus has taken him in his arms and
carries him iu his bosom. I give thee
to thy God, the God that gave thee—
A well spring of’deed gladness to my heart
All precious as thou art,
And pure as dew of Heaven, He shall have
thee.
My own, niv beautiful, my undefiled ,
And thou shall he his child.
One that Loved Him.
If you are a parent and have a son
who is dcac to you, tiring him up in
such a mautier that he will never be a
speech maker. The most tiresome man
in the United States to day is the one
who is always watching for an oppor
tunity to make a speech. The worst
of it is that the man who wants to
make a speech is uever a good speaker.
He generally has a wheezy voice and
yellow teeth, aud iu nine cases out of
ten he says “eyether” and “nyether.” j
So, if your boy develops a weakness
for speaking, lead him out to the wood
shed in the still, dreamy gloaming and
bit him with two cords of green elm.

A studeut of comparative politics
points out the fact that the government
of the I'uited States is among the old
est of civilized governments now ex
isting in the world, since most Euro
pean countries have been to a consid
erable degree revolutionized since the
first election of George Washington to
the Presidency. The French rep ib
lie, the present German empire, and
the Italian kingdom, considered as poli
tical entities, are but youngsters be
side the century-old American republic.

One reason why Scott’s Emulsion of Pure Nor
wegian Cod Liver Oil and Hypophosphites of Lime
and Soda has had such a large sale is because it is
“Almost as palatable as milk;” but the best reason is
that its curative properties are unequalled. It cures
the cough, supplies the waste of tissues, produces
flesh and builds up the entire system.

Primary and Intermediate Grades, - Free plus Public School fund.
Advanced Grade, 1.50 “ > “ “ “
Incidental Fee 50c per pupil (in advauce)
Pupils will be classed in the “Advanced Grade” who pursue one or all
of the following studies, viz: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Surveying,
Latin, Greek, French, Physics, or Chemistry.
We are enabled to thus reduce tuition, from the fact that we pay no “high
rental” for a building, and we propose to give our patrons the benefit of a
school conducted upon a correct basis.
Let all send their children in at the very opening of school, as it enables us
to organize at once, and give all an even beginning.
The patronage of the entire community is solicited.
