District Conference..
The South Atlanta District Confer
ence of the M. E. Church, South, is
now in session in our midst, and is
composed of representative men among
whom ate some of the brightest and
most advanced thinkers in the general
conference.
We feel gratified that this honorable ;
body of Christian workers have seen
fit to honor our town by meeting here,
and we hope their visit will be pleasant
and profitable to each individual mem
ber.
Our people—the gold citizens of
McDonough—are noted for their gen
uine southern hospitality, and we feel
assured that nothing will be left un
done by them that would help make the
occasion a pleasant and profitable oue.
In conclusion we would once more
extend to the body tbe freedom of Mc-
Donough, and best wshes of our en
tire community.
Several of our correspondents failed
j to send in their usual contribution this
week. Let us hear from you regular
ly friends.
The Tent MeettiiK-
On last Sunday the opening services
of the series of meetings that are be
ing conducted in our midst were held
under the big teat. Wev. W. W.
Brinsfield pr. ached the introductory
sermon at 11:00 o’clock a. m. to a large
and attentive congregation. He also
tilled the pulpit on Sunday and Mon
day evenings, expounding the Word ou
both occasions with great power.
Ou Tuesday morning Rev. W. A.
Dodge, of .Atlanta, by in
vitation to assist in the services,
preached at 10:00 a. m. and 8:00 p. m.
lie also filled the pulpit Wednesday
morning and evening. As each service
came around it could be plainly seen
that the interest was increasing, and
when Presiding Elder Pierce and the
preachers and delegates commenced ar
riving last Wednesday evening the ex
ercises had assuntad the appearance of
an old fashioned camp meeting.
On Thursday morning the District
Conference convened in business ses
sion at 9:30 o'clock. At eleveu the

their hopes be well grounded and their
desires fully realized is our heartfelt
wish.

The Montezuma Record puts the sit
uation in a nutshell. It says : “The
country is now suffering from the bad
laws saddled upon us by the republican
party. As soon as congress meets the
democrats ought to attack these laws,
repeal, reform and enact, aud thus bet
ter the condition of affairs. The re
publicans, and the republicans alone,
are responsible for the money striu
! gency and the robber tariff. They
have had thirty years to give us a sta
ple money currency, but they left mon
etary matters in such a bad plight until
there is no fixed values, and bank and
business failures are frequent. It will
take time and wise ,statesmanship to
undo republican rascality.”
Mr. James Craig of Ttissahaw dis
trict has presented us the finest speci
men of a turnip we have yeb'Seen. Or
dinarily it was of the seven top variety,
but this one surpassed itse.f and pro
duced thirteen tops, weighed C| pounds
and measured 2H inches arouud. This
surpasses Dr. Wynn’s mammoth Flat
Dutch and yields Mr. Craig tbe blue
ribbon.
Mr. Thomas J. Stewart, of Snap
ping Shoals, is a man who raises his
own supplies upon his own land. He
buys no meat, com, fodder, hay, etc.,
and in consequenca he carries no gray
hairs on account of hard times. His
cotton is a surplus crop and he can sell
or hold, just as he pleases, lie has a
number of hales yet unsold. Would
that we had a thousand young men
like Tom Stewart.—Covington Enter

It is encouraging, in the midst of such
universal complaint of hard liiuo, to
find the following cheerful note sound
cd by 'The Middle Georgia l’roen s>:
“There has never been a yea. in the
history of this county, or at least since
| the practice of buying western snpp ies
came in vogue, when as lew provisions
were bought by the fanners as have
been the present year.
“The sale of corn an 1 meat to this
town has just been next to nothing as
compared with former years and, as far
as we can learn, these articles have
not been bought elsewhere bv residents
of this county. The lessening of ex
penses does not app-ar to have decreas
ed the productiveness of the farms, for
the usual acreage is under cultivation
and fine crops are growing. With this
enormous saving in supplies the peo
ple should be in much better condition
than usual this fall if they mike an
average crop of cotton, even il it does
not bring an average price.
“Comparatively speaking, the busi
ness of the farmer bids fair to lie in a
better condition this winter than that
of any other class, and they have tie
satisfaction of knowing besides that i;
is the result of their own efforts and
rigid economy and was not brought
about l)v the subtreasnry or other class
legislation.”
PIIACTICAM EDUCATION.
A College which is a Rare and Marked
Exception to the Unworthy Concerns
which Alllict the Country. Georgia
Business College, Wyatt iN Martin,
Macon Ga.
It is needless to say to our readers
that our investigation of the Business
College we now review was conducted
upon the lines laid down in the past.
In this case, ns iu all others, no
charges were made, no gifts accepted,
no advertisements solicited. The only
interests consulted have been those of
our readers, who ask honest, unpreju
diced advice concerning the relative
merits of the merits of the various
commercial schools which seek the pa
tronage of the people. This informs
tiou cannot be obtained through col
lege catalogues or paid write ups. De
void of all sucli features is the report
herewith given. We single out and
endorse this high grade institution upon
its high merit alone Wo commend
it unqualifiedly to those who would
discriminate between a business college
which really fits its graduates for the
highest positions of trust and emolu
ment in the business woild; aud the
unbusiuess like affairs which almost
cast discredit upon trie very name of
“business college.”
The establishment we now review
stands out better and laughter by rea
sou of the contrast it offers iu superi
ority, genuine merit and trustworthi
ness. It is ably conducted, splendidly
equipped, and b}' all rights of supremo
and inherent worth takes front rank.
Its faculty is above criticism, and the
results accomplished speak emphatical
ly as to the fitness of each and every
individual teacher. The courses of
instruction are excellently arranged,
and in all tilings thorough and com
plele. As a result of such excellence
iu all material details, graduates come
forth ready to take responsible places,
to which are attached high salaries,
which are willingly paid to the compe
tent. For some past days it has lia.-ii
the subject of investigation by a train
ed and trusted editorial correspondent,
and as a result of such unbiased exam
inatiou, we do not hesitate to single it
out as an exemplar, and to heartily en
dorse it to every reader who desires
the highest practical education at the
lowest possible cost. Would there
were far more such institutions through
out the country to-day. It occupies
the same relative position to the infe
rior business c Jleges that surround it.
as does our own great University of
Chicago to the piiinary schools of tin
land. —Western Trade Journa 1 , Chioao.
