Gus Hester and Gay Welch, two

From those present, we learn that
the maeting of the South River Asso

of the largest ever knowu of any sirni

and everybody were delighted with the
day. all uniting iu highest praises of
the kiuduess aud hospitality extended
by the entire community.
McDonough continues to be the best
cotton market in this section, aud those
in a position to judge say the extra
pi ices here will bring two or three
thousand bales to this place this sea
sou which havg been going in other
directions heretofore. Thk Weekly
is reliably informed that McDouough
quotations have been from three-six
teenths to a half above Atlauta all the

Judge W. T. Dicken receiced a pret
ty severe fall last Mouday, from which
he has since been confined to his room,
lie was standing in front of Mr. High
tower’s store, when he was attacaed
with vertigo aud fell upon his face to
the ground, receiving a considerable
bruise on the eye, from which the
blood fiowed freely. Though right
badly hurt, he is considerably improved,
and his friends hope to see him ou
again in a few days.
One of our merchants, iu lookiug
over his old books recently, discovered
tbat when cotton was selling for ten
aud eleven cents, sugar which is now
selling at twenty pounds to the dollar
was then nine, aud flour which is now
three dollars per barrel was then seveu
and eight. Goods of other kinds are
considerably down, while meat is about
the same just now, though it sometimes
goes several cents lower. So it seems
that laws of finance and trade in the
long run inevitably adjust themselves.

Mr. Claud Williams Makes a Narrow

It was reported here last Tuesday
night that Mr. Claud Williams of Lo

been able to obtain anything further,
except the following, which appeared

morning :
Griffin, Oct. 16.—Claud B. Williams,
a young man of good family, about 25
years old, of Locust Grove, attempted
suicide here at 6 o’clock this afternoon
by firing a pistol into his left side, near
the heart. The weapon was a 38
Smith & Wesson revolver but the ball
glanced off and saved the poor fellow
from taking his life. lie is in a seri
ous condition, but will likely recover.
Williams came here about a week ag",
and no cause is assigned for the raßh
act.

I would like to state that I will be
iu the cotton seed market again this
season. My scales are new and accu
rate, my house is very convenient to get
to, and a child can unload with ease.
Thanking the good people for past
favors, and hoping to share a liberal
continuance of patronage, if highest
market prices will merit it, 1 am
Yours truly,
Walker M. Carmichael.
